Help !!

I am the "Original" owner of my 1987 XLT 4X4 'Midnight Blue' supercab. Last summer.08, it started running rough,( 4 or 5 cylinders) loss of power, hesitation, bad fuel mileage) and stalling while letting the clutch out. I started with the no-brainer stuff; (K&N)air-cleaner, plugs,(wires are good), gas filter, dist.rotor, and yesterday the Ignition module on the back of the distributor. It fired up and idled better than it has in a while. Only to test drive to frustration. I had some codes pulled in Dec. (some for tach inop and non-relative stuff). I replaced the o2 a few years back.I replaced all possible vacuum lines last fall. My muffler and tail pipe needs replacing. My tags were due in Dec. and I need to get it smogged. I'm growing weary of fighting this thing.....please help !!

well if you have some kind of exhaust leak in front of the O2, you are looking at false lean singles and would cause a rich mixture... but it might be the opposite... I had a bad ignition wire to the #1 cylinder and I had a super rich mixture since the plug didn't fire... and I was missing some power.

you could/should consider the injectors being gummed up and not flowing either at all or well enough to put enough fuel in the cylinder... this could cause the computer to mess with the fuel map and cause your rough idle/stall problems.

Try smacking the catilytic converters with something and if it sounds like its all broken up then it could be them

When it quits raining I'll try that. I planned on having it checked soon because my muffler and end pipe need replaced so I can get it smogged soon. Thanks for your idea.......

Thank you for input. I'll add it to the 'to do' list.

I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and battery cables yesterday.( the vacuum between the reg. and tank had a crack, was hoping that would help) No big difference. Sometimes it runs like I just pressure washed the engine and got something wet. I'm wondering about the computer. I crossed a river with this truck in summer of '89 and flooded the floor. The symptoms are similar to that when warranty took care of it back then..... btw-- I was use to crossing with my lifted Chevy stepside......** Thanks for all suggestions/input** Me and this truck have been together since Dec. 1987, bout ready to put her to pasture.

FPR had no effect either? Might want to do a compression check as well. My old motor had a cracked head, and all those symptons were present. Three weeks later it toasted the crank bearings and blew the motor.

Oil and water have looked ok......comp. check should still be done. It's been years
