hey, i have a 92 mustang motor im looking to turbo for a 94 ranger 2.3 i was woundering i found a complete 87 turbo coupe rebuild kit, i was woundering if that would work with my block?? i want to run my stock computer i heard that i could safely run like 8 psi on the stock computer n fuel pump, also woundering what is a good injector size to use later down the road im gonna get a sct tuner to tune my computer to run more boost, im just looking to see what i will need to do to run 8lbs for now??

thanks bobby

the rebuild will work with that block... the first thing you need to do is get bigger injectors , maf, and a computer... i dont think anyone on here or any where would reccomend using your stock computer... not saying it cant be done just saying its really not safe for your motor... that being said if you want to go the hard route and use your stock ecu the least you would need is a fuel pressure regulator, injectors, maf, and the most important is a wide band O2... good luck and hope it works out

thanks i was thinking about useing a 90mm maf off of a lightning n then the mustang 5.0 injectors, the past that i dont get is the regulator where can i get one that will fit the ranger cause of the stock one being part of the fuel rail???

Doing this with an EEC-IV (read 1994 down) 4 banger computer is going to be a hack job at best. Installing different injectors and a different MAF is only going to make matters worse.

There are 3 correct ways to do this:
1. Use a computer from a Ford turbo car (They're Ford-designed to run a turbo 2.3L)
2. Use megasquirt ( www.diyautotune.com )
3. Swap to EEC-V ranger electronics and get it dyno tuned.

by the eec-v your talking about n obd2 computer will that go in with out any rewiring n work with everything i have, also what would i have to do if i got the turbo coupe computer will i have to rewire all my sensors n coils????

No the EEC-V will not drop in, it is a huge pain-in-butt swap and you still have to tune it for the turbo in the end. It is the most expensive and time consuming option on that list.

The easiest is just get the Ford turbo computer from a 87-88 thunderbird turbocoupe along with the VAM and fuel injectors (take the turbo and manifold too if you have access to the whole car). It's EEC-IV just like your truck and easy to swap in, you just have to change a few pins (see the write-up in the tech library).

so all i would need is the computer vam n injectors??? will work with the dp head?

Be careful with the rebuild kits...

The stock type forged pistons are no longer available, and the rebuild kits come with Hypereutectic pistons.

You would be better off finding a 2.3T engine and doing a re-ring job on it. If not, then invest in a good set of Forged pistons.

is this a good kit or should i find a different kit to use?????

try to find a different kit that has Hypereutectic pistons not good with boost trust me blew the side right out of one on my very first turbo nissan... you should be able to find some forged pistons for a half way decent price somewhere... but in my opinion dont use this kit find a better one it will be more expensive but better in the long run

i have searched for hours n this is the only kit i can find

You dont want to use the pistons in the northern kit because they are hyper. not forged and if you go over 5psi of boost YOU WILL be sorry! But what you can do is call summit racing and they can still geu forged pistons for that motor BUT they are special order an will take a minute to get them. And as for your dual plug head you cant use it. NOW what i would do is like the other guy said and find you a computer and van meter from a turbo coupe then you can get you a new wire harness for like 460.00 that is for the turbo moter and get you a turbo coupe or any other single plug 84-88 head and swap in the roller cam from your ranger and go from there.

are you crazy 50 percent of th 2.3T motors on this forum are dual plug... in fact me myself am runnin the dual plug head on an 88TC block... if he switches to a single plug he will have to switch wiring harnesses Whiich is a pain in the ass, find the upper and lower intake from a single plug... USE THE DUAL PLUG HEAD they flow a little bit better (but not much) it will be easier in the long run and if your gonna have the motor apart use your block and make it that much easier, if thats the route your wanting to go, the easiest way is the forged internals in your block with the 87-88 Turbo computer a couple of pins switched and your running boost with a factory tuned computer... Now your list you absolutely need is injectors out of a turbo coupe i think their brown tops... the computer... forged internals,of course turbo and mani... and i would suggest an intercooler... use the tech page they tell your everything your need study it very hard and get the parts on the list and youll be good (depending on the computer) 13psi

Am i crazy?.......No i stated my opinion and now you gave yourz. I said he would have to get a wire harness that would have made it easy for 460.00 but i oppologize for tryna help. I wont do it again sir.
