So from previous threads I found that my starter is not getting ground so I bench tested my starter and that was right so I tried using a temporary ground to see if my engine would turn over and it does but won’t turn on I used starting spray to see if it was fuel and that didn’t work so I think it’s spark the negative battery cable goes straight to the block so I know I have a good ground to the block but I’m not so sure about the ground to the frame I can’t seem to find one so does anyone know what I should do to make one or have any other suggestions to fix these problems

I tested it again without the temporary ground only supplying positive power to the starter and it worked so would that mean that somewhere along the line there’s a power drop?

Just for clarity, when you say it worked, do you mean it ran or it turned over? Do you have a multimeter for testing?

The engine turned but didn’t start and no I don’t have one

And when you turn the key it doesn't turn over?

I figured it out I didn’t have the dist hooked up to the ignition coil like an idiot but now it’ll turnover normally and it tries to fire but won’t turn on

Ok, well that's progress. So, it tries to fire? You haven't messed with the timing or anything like that?

I have taken the dist out and put it back in but I know the timing is good I listened a little harder and the cylinder are firing in the right order it just sounds like it’s not getting enough fuel

I think it’s the timing then
If you took the distributor out, what steps did you take to make sure the timing is correct when you put it back in?

I made sure cyl 1 was at tdc on a compression stroke and that the rotor on the dist was facing the cyl 1 position

No chance of being off by a tooth?

I think it’s possible because I just tried to re do it and when I have it set to tdc the dist won’t go all the way in unless it’s pointing at cyl 4
