Help with new subs

sound good in a box has nothing to do with the fact that its pre made, more so on sealed boxes. one major fact is mdf is not airtight to begin with, secondly you didnt run a bead of silicon around the rim of your sub and on your screws before you seated them. so it wil never be "sealed". and 85% of pre made boxes have sealed joints,

now for why different type of boxes sound different. is there internal space, and shape to a certain degree. as far as square, round and triangel shaped boxes are concerent there sound is based off of needs of the sub. if you have a 10'' sub that needs 1 CF of air space to run "correctly" if you put it in a box that is 1.5 CF, then its will have more rumbling base sound. if you put the same sub in a box of .75 CF then it will have more of a punch sound to it. which is were the term "power wedge" came from they had smaller CF and that 10'' "hit harder". so it sounded like a 12.

how much air in a box effect sound quality because its every time the sub hits it creates a vacume in the box. now most of the time when you drop the size of the box you need to up the watts from the amp becasue it take more energy to fight the vacume created in the smaller box.

to prove this look at audio systems that bose makes
sroll all the way down to the bottom of the page on the link
http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/wave_systems/index.jsp

you see that small speaker as this long tube for the sound to resenate in,
now the front of the speaker is facing right out side. its how you get the best of both worlds, the noise comming out the front of the speaker is sharp and clear. the noise comming from the back is kinda echoed thur that tube making a more blended sound, if bose just sealed it off in the back it would sound like walmart boom box.

same think with subs the more "tube" you give it in the rear the more blended rumbling sound you get.... the less you give it the more hit you get.
