help! was told not to put larger tires on!

Don't forget that it shortens the life of wheel bearings, tie rod ends, and ball joints. With 33's is shouldn't be too bad, just keep it in mind.

Are you going to the Marines? "Jarhead" made me wonder?

I think if you research it a little on here youll find that most will tell you the torsion keys are a waste of money. Your stock torsion keys will allow you to crank the bars as far as you should ever crank them. Most guys say stock keys can get you 1 1\2 - 2'' of lift and that belltech 6400 shakles are better for lift and flex in the rear. Ive heard with the stock torsions cranked 33s should fit, some say they rub. Depending on your gearing it may be a little bit of a dog. I would ask this in the 4X4 Suspensions and look at tech library for some info, be prepared to get told to use the seach too cause alot of this has been covered hundreds of time. Good luck:icon_thumby:

ya, i was gonna say to take em to the hobby shop on base to get em mounted but thats when i realized he said he was 17.

i dont know who told you you could call urself a jarhead if you havent earned the title yet. you will learn real quick that in the Corps, you have to earn EVERYTHING!

good luck with ur tires.

walmart does the same thing. I have some 285/60R17 BFG A/T KO's on my F-150 - stock size is 265. WalMart would gladly sell them to me (For $40/tire more than tire rack), but when I brought them in from another vendor to have them mounted, they said they wouldn't mount anything other than the stock size.

I think it's a corporate CYA thing, someone probably rolled their vehicle and sued them for letting them mount oversized tires.

Fortunately I have a close friend whose dad owns a tire shop, so we went up there after work and I mounted them myself.

every tire place ive gone to.... i tell them what vehicle they are going on... they just look at me funny and ask if they are going to fit.... i tell them to just put them on and they do it....

The best one when my friend put 33s on his Mitsubishi Montero. They looked at him like his was handicapped and told him they never would fit. They put them on and were very surprised...

my 96 4x4 came stock with 265/75/15s. got 235/75/15 on it and i hate the little tires lol

ya im not in the corps yet, but im a really strong supporter, and people started calling me it in like8th grade, cuz my hair i mean no offence to anyone who has earned the title

also when looking for belltech 6400 shackles they all say lowering????? am i just that incompetent i cant figure out where to buy the lift ones or if u just turn them upside down

they are lowering shackles for a chevy, because the leaf is above the shackle mount. On a Ranger the spring is below the shackle mount, so a longer shackle lifts it instead of lowering.

If I were you, I wouldn't buy the torsion keys. Your truck is going to ride the same whether it's a t-bar crank or keys. It's still moving the torsion bars giving it the same effect. The only difference is you aren't paying out the ying-yang for 'em. I threw some 265/75's on my stock 99 for a little extra "lift".

EDIT: By the way, if you're getting 14.5 mpg on 235's, you're driving like a bat outta hell. I get 15 mpg on 265's with 3.73 gearing.

oh ok thanks, and my ranger has broken motor mounts and broken tranny mount, so it likes to shake like a cocaine addict in intervention when idling, its on my list of things to do

Do not buy torsion keys. Just crank your stock ones. Costco/walmart/etc. are just covering themselves from any liability issues. If you take it to an actual tire shop they'll do it no problem once they see the lift. Belltech 6400s are a great way to lift the rear end over blocks or AAL's in my opinion and very straightforward to install. Good luck!

hmmm... my 97 came from the dealership brand new with 265/75 R15's...(basically 31's) when my parents bought it brand new in 97.

granted, 97's are different in the front suspension and front hubs/axles. I have had absolutely no issues with brakes or stoping, and I get 19-21 mpg on thehighway. (4.0)

One thing that I do need to fix is teh ball joints. the front wheels are at a bit of a slant.

AJ

mines tires slant like that too. i beleive the camber is the cause of it though.

Dont listen to them i once had a tire place tell me that the tires that came stock on my 2wd truck were too big. on the door sticker clearly says 225/70/14 but they said that those would not fit on my truck. I just bought some 235/75/15's from somewhere else had no problems. now i have a 3" BL and 31/10.50's and the truck runs just fine:icon_thumby:

your fine to ge big tires. i have about 5 inches of lift and 35's and my truck brakes with a longerdistance and accelerates bad with the spedo off but no problems. ignore them. i was told that my tires wouldnt fit and wont go on my rims blah blah.
