I did a search for a 94 5.0 at sparkplugs.com not knowing your year motor it says for autolite standard #25 and single platinum are #AP25 both have the heat range of 5. The plugs you have in there are for high performance boat motor and probably just fine. Take a fine wire brush and clean them off good it says gap them at .54. The black is probably just reminence of when you had the timing wrong. Standard plugs is all you need for that engine but take the champions out you dont want to run different heat range plugs keep them all the same number.

Well I was told I don't want to check color on a platinum plug so that is the reason for the champions

Well I put #68 jets in primary and still no color on porcelain after 50 miles

How is the fuel mileage it sounds like it is burning nice and clean, and with the bigger jets you are sure not to be running lean. Do the larger jets affect the performance any.

How much did you go up in numbers on the jets ? I alwys go at least 4 sizes, 2 sizes many times doesn't show any change

Holley said go at least 2 but I went from a 65 to a 68 only on the primary the secondary also has a 68

Call around different shops with the sniffer maybe you can get it in one cheap. I think your fine but the only way to accurately tell is to measure torque (lower) and hp (upper) with hydrocarbons.

Yeah definitely swap out those plugs. I tried running those fancy plugs in my old Ranger and my first Mustang to no avail. I tried running Champoins and found that they weren't worth the box they're packaged in. Regular $1.09 Autolite 25s or 764s have worked the best for me in a 302, stock or otherwise.

If the champions are either 25 or 525 the heat range is 17 probably why the burn so hot you can damage the pistons or valves if you run them any amount of time especially high rpms. the autolite 25s are heat range 5 and the 764 are a 4 put the 25s or AP25s in and check the color I bet you get the toasty brown color you are looking for. The shorter the porcelan insulator the colder the plug it is better to error on the cold side the plug will foul and not damage the engine.
