HELP QUICK changed caliper and now brake pedal hits the floor

Relief. Had the brakes looked at by a shop down the street. Dude said they were good to go, but that I should do a full bleed in the next few months. So I'm just gonna have them do it tomorrow.

And they'll crack the stuck bolts on my other caliper! YAY!

That is sound advice. Brake fluid is hydrophilic, which means it attracts water. Water, as you know doesn't get along well with metal.

The leading cause of caliper failure is water-logged brake fluid, so it is always advisable to change out all the fluid any time a caliper is replaced. Or every two to three years, which ever comes first.

Brake fluid is hydrophilic

Thanks for the new vocabulary word. I usually use "hygroscopic" (similar) and most often mispronounce it "hydroscopic".

I usually use the word "hydrophallic" which means basically the same thing, but has naughtier connotations.

Hydrophillic means it likes water.

Hydroscopic should mean it seeks water.

Hydrophallic would mean it gets a boner over water.

I have never, ever, ever done a total brake fluid change. Perhaps thats why every vehicle ive ever had has popped a brake line?

It certainly hasn't helped. Yikes!

I have. It's worth it. The browner the fluid the less it works. I worked at a brake shop for a few years and did several on customers cars. So I decided one weekend to do my old S-10 a break job , new pads, turned rotors and drums and all new fluid. Opened up the rears and used a syringe to push out the old fluid with the new stuff. When clear fluid came out we closed it up and went to the next one. Night and day difference in pedal feel. So I highly recommend it if you drive something with 10 year old break fluid, it might be time
