Help please....88 E150 van....

just a note a flush on any automatic with high miles gives you about a 70% chance of destroying your tranny. unless it has had regular flushes through out its life. the reason is that after so manny miles the tranny fluid loses its deturgents (propertys to clean inturnal parts) or more properly put the deturgents turn into varnish and collect on the friction plates. after more miles the friction plates start to deteriorate to the point that the varnish is the only thing holding the friction plates together. when new fluid is added the deturgents in it start to break down the varnish and the friction plates fall apart.
atleast thats how my transmissions teacher described it to me

I heard something like this back in shop class.

Did you find out what it was?

if it is the lock up torque converter there should be a plug in on the side of the transmission i had the same prob with a friend of mines car we unplugged the wire and it worked fine. then you take the tranny oil pan off and take one solinoid out at a time and clean them with carb cleaner and make sure they move in and out and also spray up into the passage the solonoid went into they get plugged up with varnish and stop working it worked for me and saved me lots of money.

what trans?

sounds like a coast clutch r offset cp.
cross leaks can cause issues in drive where manual low will not.

the tps can cause a stall as well. make sure its .95 or so at idle and 4.5 or so at wot and steady rise between

Sounds like the filter came off. Search for filter falling off e4od and you should find the subject.
