I have a 1984 Ranger 3.8, 4 Speed manual transmission 4X4 and I need the Neoprene ball that goes on the lower end of the shift lever. It is a round ball with a hole in the middle that slips over the bottom end of the shifter. The ball is worn/damaged and slips out and I have to take the shifter out to fix it every time it does. I can't find one any where local. Does anybody know where I can get one? Thanks in advance...Lacomo

It isn't neoprene.

It's Nylon.

It's also moulded onto the tip of the shaft.

The shifter has been discontinued for a long time and the component parts were never available.

someone MIGHT have a complete shifter but it MUSTbe froma 4sp the 5sp shifter is different.

I"m not a mechanic and I don't know for sure but this one looks like a donut. It may have been molded to the shaft and broke loose but looks like a donut that slips over the end of the shaft.

I'm almost willing to bet that some previous mechanic tried to create a shifter "Ball"

If you can find a machinist it might be possible to have them bore a hole in an appropriatly sized ball bearing and epoxy ot th the end of the shift lever.
