God’s plan, not mine.
Bought a B2 that had a busted transmission shaft that I had never heard run. Trans was already removed..... figured it was running when the trans blew soo...

Was the FM146, so I removed the bellhousing, and just bolted it back onto the 2.9. Installed the starter as well, and the 3/8 bolt for the wire...

No start with key

Moved the clutch switch on the pedal.... no start with key

Jumped the solenoid....no start... no turn over

Hooked jumper cables to ground and start wire for starter... no turn over...no start.

Tapped starter with hammer.... same results.

Any ideas?

Only idea I can think of is to pull the starter back out and see if it's any good when hooked directly to jumper cables.

FWIW, I only want to start it to see if it will.... I plan to swap a complete underhood from a 94 Ranger 4.0 in anyway.

I'm sure you have, but I didn't see it mentioned soo... Is the battery hot and good terminal connections?

Since you jumped the started relay and it didn't do anything, It definitely sounds like a dead starter or bad wire.

I would take a socket and ratchet to the crankshaft and see if the motor is free and not locked up. Tapping the starter doesn't always fix a starter. Take the starter to your local part store and they can test to see if the starter is working or needs replaced.

When was the last time this truck ran? I personally don't want to crank a motor over if has been sitting for a long time. The rings can rust to the cylinder walls, and a starter is strong enough to break the rings from the cylinder wall and that can break a ring, eventually causing motor wall damage.

It had been sitting for only about a month since it last ran. I'm going to take the starter off and have it tested. I have a good feeling that's the most likely cause.
