I'm working on rebuilding a '96 Ranger and I'm stuck on this part. I've been trying to figure out the name for the fitting with the black tubing on it. The one behind it is "elbow hot water connection lower manifold". It looks like it feeds the thermostat. The one in front is so corroded that it's about to snap off.

Moving this to the 3.0 section…

Can you outline exactly which part you're talking about? And maybe another pic from a different angle? I don't see a fitting with a black hose on it...

Unfortunately I can't get another pic of it currently. The black hose turned out to be electrical tape that someone had tried to use to cover up the holes. Once I unwrapped all that tape, about 2/3 of the bottom of the tube was rotted away where it connects to the hexagon part (that screws into the lower intake manifold next to the thermostat). I found a tube of JB Weld SteelStik putty in the garage, so I'm giving that a shot while I keep looking for a replacement part. All the junk yards around me only sell whole engines, so no luck trying to scavenge a part that way.

My guess is that its a heater hose connection, same as the other one pointed the opposite way and that has a temperature sender in it.

Thanks! Not sure why I didn't think to just google "heater hose connection", but that looks exactly right. Appreciate the help!

IF the threads are compatible, you might be able to replace those with plain ole plumbing fittings...
