I just bought a '95 Ranger with a 2.3L to give to a friend, and I'm trying to clean it up first. The temp gauge is pegged at all times, so I'm assuming it needs a new coolant temp sensor/ECT. I'm new to Rangers - where is this located?

I have to try this as well. It was brought up in an older post here:

The sender for the gauge is in the drivers side of the block to the upper rear. It has one wire. The sensor in the hose is the coolant temperature sensor for the computer, two wires. shady

ECT sensor

My 94 ranger has the ECT on the hose from the T-stat to the heater coil and that has a 3 wire plug which when I had rough idle trouble it really cleared it up when changed.

Left side of the upper block. It has one wire. It may be easier to get to from the bottom. shady

Thanks everybody. It didn't help Advance sold me the wrong part and I was looking for something that wasn't there. So, the two wire sensor on the t-stat is for the computer, and is probably fine if the truck runs good? The one wire on the back left of the block is what I want? Sounds like a good summer project.

Oops! It didn't register what you said about the ECT. No, that sensor does not register gauge temperature. The gauge temperature is a sender, not a sensor. And yes, it has one wire on the left side of the block. shady

So....if I wanted to remove/plug that hose that starts at that block sensor and goes up into the intake manifold and then out to the heater hoses, can I do that? This is on a off road race truck, so I'm trying to eliminate everything thats not needed........someone told me its just an emisions thing, but i dont know?
