In your case you could always get that stick on sound deadening stuff if you wanted.

That's part of the plan. I mentioned it in the beginning.

It’s going to be noticeably louder… But, you’re the one who will have to deal with the noise when you drive it 2/3 of the way across the country later this year.

I'll do it soon enough that I can put it back before then, if needed.

We can recover it real quick at the shop if you can get by there. If you have it stripped we can put new foam and knock it out in less than an hour man. Probably got some left over fabric rolls big enough. If not we always have plenty of carpet in all 3 colors. Great for patches. That's if you wanted to keep it.

I had mine out in the ‘94 for a couple of years, the fabric material was in bad shape so I just took it out. Didnt mind it being out, but got the bright idea to spray it with flex seal & put it back in. That stuff doesn’t work well for that, it started peeling off after a year. Didnt have any condensation issues with it out. I just looked & I never took any pictures of that, I know- odd. The one thing I remember is there will be gap on your windshield pillar trim with it out, and the lens for the interior lights wasn’t able to be put back in with headliner out (and when I put the headliner back in , I couldn’t find that part, never have found it)

Thank you. I'll probably delete the A-pillar trim also. Mine are barely fastened as it is.

There's also decent alternatives at any well-stocked fabric store. When I did my '94 SC years ago I found a felt-like material at Hobby Lobby that only cost a few bucks for enough to the headliner.

A felt material is great for covering any headliner backing imperfections, like cracks or boogers from the old foam. And it's non-directional (i.e.- no visible weave) so it's real forgivable to stretching and forming when you stick it.

And I second the dingle-balls, too, but the nodding head dog is supposed to go on the rear package shelf (which we don't have).

My experience is opposite. My truck came stock without a headliner. I drove it that way for about 8 years.

I was curious how a headliner may affect the ability to hold heat/cold, so I took an entire interior from an 88 XLT REGULAR cab and installed all of it; it included carpet/rear/side panels/headliner, which mine never had.

I made 3 observations:
• it held heat much better
• it maintained the cool better (before I disabled the a/c)
• I was able to hear my stereo significant improvement in audio detail

Because of these factors, I kept it in. I found that adding sound dampening media under the carpet, stock headliner, side and rear panels further improved all 3 aspects.

The only aspect I didn't fully love is that the ceiling is a bit lower; this could be an issue for taller drivers. It didn't, however have any negative impact on installing a "Shelve It" overhead storage shelf.

I haven't really ridden in a Ranger that has one... but there does seem to be quite a bit more noise.

My truck never has had a headliner.





I don't know how a third gen compares but all the plastic trim around the ceiling is different for headliner delete first gens.

Never really noticed anything with heat in the cab, my truck has A/C but it is a late bloomer... it didn't get it until a couple years ago.

The roof in my 2011 doesn't look that nice and clean. Probably because they expect a head liner to be in place to cover it up.

I suspect it will be the same for @Curious Hound .

I always thought the 1st gens without headliner had a metal skin in it's place. I know my 86 had 2 layers of steel there and smooth inside like that. Every truck I've seen the headliner out of just had the outer skin and some braces glued to it.

I expect to see the internal rib structure. That's what I want to see so I know where I can mount things.
