Has anyone put the closed chamber(fast burn) heads on a pre 95 engine. I know Ford says it will burn down the pistons, but I am thinking that a chip would solve this problem.
I am starting the rebuild 5/30/09 and would like to get some feedback.

Well for starters it creates a higher compression engine.

and you'll need to feed it premium fuel.

Frankly if you live in Denver, Cheyenne, Casper, etc... you'll love it.
and at altitude it'll run fine on pump regular.

If you go to lower altitude plan on installing a water injection system

Thanks for the feedback. I know that I will end up with about 10:1 compression. I am wondering if a chip will compensate for the higher compression. The old days of rejetting and retarding the timing are long gone. I have not built a high performance engine with all of this new fangled electronic bulls--it.
Some of us oldtimers just hate change!

Finally got to drive the truck with the new setup.

WOW it is great. I did do some mild port work to the exhaust to flow into the headers better.

CopyKat, Have you done a plug check and if so, are there any signs of predetionation or aluminum on them? Also is the color light brown, gray, or white?

I'll have a look at them tonight. So far I don't hear any knock even under heavy acceleration. I've been running 92 and 94 octane fuel. 94 being better.

Not sure what available in your area.

I'll get back to you on the plugs.

Didn't get around to checking the plugs. I had too much going on, and it was raining out.

I could get a check on them tonight if I have time.

No hurry and I appreciate your help. I haven't uncrated the .40 over short block I got from Fliteline yet.
