having nitro truck problems

im very new to the nitro car world so dont laugh.....

i got a duratrax maximum mt free from my g/fs dad on saturday. it had been sitting for a while but on sunday i went to a friends house, popped in a new glow plug, put some fuel in it, put the igniter to it and it started after a couple pulls. tooled around with it in his driveway for a little while, the thing hauled ass and ran good. tank ran out, i packed up and left n went back here to maine. today i went to a local hobby store to get some fuel, a few more plugs, and my own igniter. came back, plugged the igniter in the charger for about n hour. filled the tank up, put the ingiter to her n it started first pull. ripped around the parkin lots and on the lawns n stuff here at school....no problem, but then when i was going up a grassy hill again it just stopped going but the engine was still revvin up. and it doesnt want to really go anymore, the motor still runs fine, it just doesnt want to move. anyone know what might be going on? its a torq 16 motor if that helps. oh and the brakes stopped workin too......

sounds strange, at first I thought linkage but you say it still revs up? but there are no brakes. I think it would help if you could get some detailed pics of the motor/trans/drive setup.

yea the motor is reving and running fine and it wants to go......it just doesnt like it should, regular pavement it goes ok but grass it just stops. ill post some pics here when i get a sec...gotta try out the new cellphones camera lol

torn up gearbox maybe? or if it has one...the clutch could have crapped out....

No go...

Sounds like the centrifugal clutch to me, it's like a brake drum with expanding brake shoes on the end of the engine crankshaft. Have to replace the shoes or adjust them IF their adjustable. (should show in the manual)

Be sure to check all your gears as well.

I know the clutch on mine got too hot once, and it was doing what you describe. Luckily once it cooled it was fine.

sounds like the clutch to me, or the slipper on the spur gear is loose, which it kinda does in the pic(where the spring is between the gear and the nut

Clutch grenaded. Unless he bought an upgraded unit in which case maybe the drive gear stripped.

sounds to me like a bad servo or servos, or low batteries in the remote or hump pac in car. or just plain out of range, do you have a fail safe installed or do you have a digital remote and receiver with one built in?

that was my thought. maybe a trim setting that got bumped or some linkage that has slipped and moved.

just so you know the same servo that operates the throttle also operates the brakes, if it went bad it can easily be broken in the full throttle position and not let off the gas or go back the other way to engauge the brakes

I would either guess the clutch or slipper clutch is too loose. And at worse, you stripped out the diff gears. Things you can do is, 1. tighten the slipper clutch 1x turn to see if that improves. 2. Take the clutch bell housing off and check the condition of the clutch shoes. Depending on clutch, there be any where from 2-5 shoes. A worn shoe would be one that doesn't have a square end and looks more like a triangle. 3. And if all fails, check the drivetrain for stripped diffs, loose yokes, twisted dog bones or cvds.

I use to own a HPI NMT. It was fun being a 4wd truck. But once I installed an OS .18CV-R. Every drivetrain part became broken or twisted. It became so bad, that in order for a complete rebuild of the NMT, I could just go buy another one to build new again. But ultimately, I decided to down size my collection and stick with my few choosen ones. Now I race with a Team AE RC10B4 FT, Team AE RC10TC4 Team edition, and a Team AE RC10GT FT (only nitro one left). I use to have a HPI NMT, AE RC10T3 RTR, AE RC10TC3 Rally conversion. And for kicks inside the house, a Losi LST 1/18. But for the most of it, I race only the AE RC10B4 FT. Nothing beats a good blast with a screaming 40mph buggy.

sounds like you ground down your spir gear actually, does it grind when you try to go in grass?
if it does ,check the mesh between the spir and clutch

it should be able to mane a zig zag in a peice of paper
how are the spur teeth?
it coulda been that, it happened to mine when my motor mount screws came loose
