Have you met a dealer that admits they mark their cars up

There was a time that leasing made sense to me... and I did it for 8 years.

I'm not *acting* at all, I'm stating. Would you rather rent the place where you live (putting the money into someone elses pocket to enjoy) instead of owning it yourself?...leasing works on the same principle, renting is throwing money away. You basically said it yourself you keep paying for a replacement vehicle that you will never own.

Houses and cars are very different. The value of real estate is relatively stable and doesn't depreciate. Normally, after X years a $25,000 vehicle depreciates to $2,500 or whatever and then kind of flatlines. A few become 'classics' and appreciate but it's the exception not the rule.

For example, to some people cars are just a necessary piece of equipment sometimes needed for their lifestyle. It's not even their preferred method of transportation. For them, leasing a car that they use sparingly and don't worry about maintenance or care of said vehicle is probably the right economic decision.

Then there's also the fact that we all die at some point, and what good will equity do us then? So rent a house/apartment, use the rest of your money for whatever floats your boat, and worry not about the condition, maintenance, or value of your home. While this isn't me (yet), over the years I've come to appreciate that attitude as well.

We made about $230k last year... I’m not concerned with money. I work nights and really only get to see my daughter on the weekends... I’ll be damned if I’m going to waste any of that time working on my daily driver.

And deny yourself the thrill of trying to find the right part at 4:30 on Sunday handicapped by weekend grade parts store employees so you have something to drive to work on monday... what a square.

I have spare vehicles... and my wife works from home. I can always take her Bronco Sport.

Leasing works for some and buying it works for others. If one is the type of person that routinely exchanges vehicles for whatever reason, leasing might make sense. Not only on the maintenance side but the amount the monthly bill ends up being.

I keep my vehicles too long for leasing to make sense.

Cadillac had a lease program that allowed you to pick a different vehicle ever month. For a set fee you got; your choice of vehicle, registration, insurance, and they would send someone to your house to exchange them. I would do that just so I could drive a different vehicle all the time... if it wasn’t a Cadillac.

Unfortunately, Cadillac only make like two different types of cars. Seems like a bad gimmick
