Hauling Carpet

I need to start hauling rolls of carpet and linoleum and I can’t afford to purchase a new van this year. (actually the van is the affordable part the insurance not so much) I was considering using ladder racks on my ranger and strap the rolls to them. The rolls are not that big they are already cut to fit the rooms that I am covering. Snow and rain can be a factor…but I guess I could use a tarp to cover if needed.

I guess my question is can anybody suggest a rack system that I can just bolt onto the bed? The lengths of the rolls are always 12 feet so there should not be much over hang.

Sorry but your better off ditching the ranger.When was the last time you saw a carpet installer working out of a p/u?
If your going to do this on a daily basis,either have it delivered by the wholesaler or get a extended van.Unless you get a ladder rack that can be rated up to 1000lbs you'll kill the ranger pretty quick not to mention the carpet being exposed to rain or snow.

Thats what i was thinking about as well, i just hate the idea of a van being my only ride. I think i may just have to trade the ranger in at some point for another van.

I have a ladder rack that will hold up another vehicle if it has to, I got it off my grandpas ranger. My concern is, that is a lot of weight that high up. I have had a couple planks of wood up on top and it has rolled the body more going around corners.

It sucks but if you lay any type of flooring you'll need some type of van.Their is only so much you can put on a ladder rack before you'll get a little dangerous.I know I'll be ditching my E250 in the next couple of months due to high gas.Getting 11 mpg blows and as a business owner it makes no sense to continue spending 150-200 bucks per week.

id think about a trailer as well, granted a 12' trailer is pretty long but still pull-able by a ranger. ive got a 6x9 and ive really gotten alot of use from it. better than maintaining a seperate bussiness vehicle too.

Will is right on. Its a simple, cheap, and perfect solution for you. Still might need the tarp if the weather isnt good but thats a simple fix. Great if you need to get long peices of wood or anything with length.

That gizmo is a cool idea, and looks like it's working well for you. Did you have to do anything with the rear suspension to keep the rear of the truck from sagging too low?

if you have rear suspension sag issues, here is a idea from me. there coil helpers from autozone. about 30 bucks. i even made a way for them to work under the taurus.
