Has anyone painted these wheels black?

So I've got these ugly rims lol, and have been pondering the idea of painting them black and puttin on some wheel spacers. Just wanted to see a couple pics of what they look like black

Someone here did paint their alloys within the last 6 months and it looked pretty good. Do your search using painting alloys as a key phrase and it may pop up for you.

I've seen them in black. There was an Explorer running around here when I was in college with those rims blacked out. It was a cheap home-brew spray-bomb job, but it didn't look too bad. The only problem was poor surface prep on the center caps, so it was peeling.

I like black wheels. Had a set of the black-spokes on the '85 XJ. Maybe look into getting them powder-coated, for a durable finish?

I used the clear on mine when I did mine. But I painted it black with regular paint, if I had known about this stuff before that I would have used it to change the color of my rims. I might redo mine with that. This stuff makes for a really nice finish, one of my friends used it on his car, he said it holds up really good, it resisted a scratch from a tire machine.

Leave the lip unpainted and just paint the center

+1 backroad I would get some gloss black wheel paint and mask off the outside lip.

Be sure to remove the clear coat first and prep correctly or the paint just won't last long. You have to prep aluminum for paint differently than steel.

If you do paint them, make sure to get an aluminum specific primer. Most normal metal primers work with mechanical adhesion, but since aluminum immediately makes an oxide layer, they don't work. Aluminum primers actually form a chemical bond to the base metal. If you don't use one, all your paint will peel off. I'd recommend a careful sanding of them too because almost all aluminum wheels have a fairly thick coating of clear on them.

Once the clear is removed, I'd even consider using a scotchbrite pad and some good mag cleaner.....the "etching" kind. This will give the paint something to grab on to.
