has anyone owned a Akita?

Sweet. Akitas will destroy and overpower the breeds you mentioned so be careful with other dogs and kids. These things hunted bear in Japan. Seriously powerful dogs. IMHO they make all other breeds look girlie.

pit bulls were used to bait bull and bear as well, i got a 70lb 10 month old pitbull/ rottweiler already stronger and smarter than my friends akita 2yrs old 88 lbs . akita is a good dog though shares a yard with a pitbull mastiff. 4yrs old

BAIT is the key word. Akitas took them down. I said they were used to hunt, not for bait.

Fences

My Bro-In-Law had an Akita that lived with us for about 6 months. He (the dog - not the Bro) was constantly climbing a 5 foot chain link fence and cruising the neighborhood. It was a real PITA to find him every day, but he seemed nice enough if you let him know who was in charge.

:annoyed: ok, an akita is used for the same thing as the pits were, they kept the bear at bay till a hunter could come and kill it (the akitas didnt do it all on their own. do some research

Baiting is when the dogs attack the bull or bear (what ever is being hunted) until they collapse from fatigue, injuries or both.

bait like the worm on a fishing hook is completely different from baiting with dogs.

anyway imo it doesnt matter what kind of dog you get, its all in how you raise them.

The research has been done. I am talking before these dogs were domesticated. Use google lazy.

We had a Shiba Inu which is a smaller version of the Akita. Talk about strong willed! Most of the spitzs are strongwilled. Our Shiba was a great dog other than the defiant attitude, good with kids, very clean, etc.

My Shiba has a defiant attitude aswell. He's stubborn if he doesn't get his way.
