Connecting rods can usually be taken off with a tap of a hammer, either on the knuckle, or the end of the bolt stem. Just make sure to leave the nut on the end of the threads so you don't deform the threads.
If you had got the fork like someone said maybe that was me you could have it apart just pop the tie rod connector off the pitman arm and you can tell if it is in the front end or the steering wheel to gearbox
can you go stop to stop and how much effort does it take it could be tite but as long as it is smooth both ways you should be ok did you give everything a shot of grease
Ok now start the engine and turn the wheel is it sticky still or does it spin free dont turn it too far either way as you dont have the stops for the gearbox
