Hard turning even after replacing power steering pump

Still not a bad idea to check it. It could just be faulty stuff.

Well, on top of a steering problem, my four month old aternator is bad. Thankfully I still have the receipt. No more damned autozone parts for me! Gonna check u joints, steering rod and such for my other issue. I still believe the ps pump is bad. We'll see.

It probably is, if the pump is hard to turn by hand it probably isn't working right.

Also, before condemning the alternator make sure it is getting power at start-up and that all of it's other wires are ok.

This is a brand new battery as of yesterday, only got to drive the truck home half an hour, then one hour total to and from work today. What could cause that to happen seriously? The alternator that is in it, is only a couple months old.

Charge the battery full first using a slow charge then check the battery voltage, start the engine and check the voltage at 2000 rpm then turn the lights and accessories on and check the voltage again at 2000 rpm it should never go above two volts of the battery voltage or less than .5 volts above battery voltage. The tech library can help you troubleshoot it dont buy any more parts till you know what it is clean the grounds good especially the engine to chassis and batt to engine and all you need is a volt ohm meter but check and clean the alternator connectors good and adding a separate ground from the alternator to the battery never hurts or at least to the chassis.

does your steering pump make noise just running dont rule out air in the system try pulling a vacuum from the cap and rotate the wheel stop to stop 10 times as long as your not pulling oil into the manifold it works great. Even a little oil will lube the valves. Mine made noise for years and was kinna stiff I did the vacuum thing and I can`t even hear it unless i hit a stop turning too far. Just check it as you go to keep it full

Gonna go buy a digital voltmeter so I can do these tests right.
I do not know if its air in the ps pump. All I know is I didn't bleed it right the first time, and I think it didn't get enough fluid in it. How to I pull vacuum from that system? What cap r u guys talking about? No caps on mine, just the return line and the high pressure line then the reservoir fill hole.

I for the life of me cant get photos to upload onto photo bucket if you email me I can send you a pic of the one I made at kimcrwbr1@aol.com otherwise what I did is got a fill cap from the bone yard and drilled a hole just under size of the brass nipple I used and screw it into the cap it into the cap where the nipple is at the highest point and hook a vacuum line up to the manifold vacuum and you are pulling a vacuum from the top of the reservor as you turn the wheel stop to stop until you get no more bubbles. I saw a write up somewhere and decided to try it you can even put a cannister in the vacuum line with two nipples so if you get any oil in the line it dont go into the manifold. I believe tis can help alot of people who do their own work it also says you can use a hand vacuum pump to do the same thing.

Still gonna try the other stuff first before I resort to vacuuming the power steering system :)

Actually in most shops vacuum bleeding is the preferred method. It's even the way Ford says to do it on the newer ones.

Well ok, I'll give you that. But, I still need to see if its something other than the pump first. Knowing what I know about the tire shop and that they said steering linkage has absolutely nothing to do with my problem, they probably didn't check shit. I'm not a betting gal, but if I were to, I'd say its either the u joints or in the column. Hard to say though til I get under there and look. One more workday then I can do that.

I really kinda wish you were closer to me. I bet I could figure this out and fix it in under 2 hours if I just had the car in front of me.

Hehe yeah, only halfway across the country lol.

Hence the problem.

Hehehe yeah. that's ok. I'll get it figured out. OR i'll sell the damn thing lol.

And if it was a b2 I'd buy it off you. Does it have a tilt column?
