My grandfather GAVE me a 1966 impala supersport with 327 and powerglide tranny. besides it being a convertible and sitting out for 35 years I would like to know what kind of mods would be needed to fit that 327 and powerglide under the hood of a ranger
I know that they would need to be rebuilt but could you imagine how much fun that it would be to race someone with that? :icon_surprised::icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

only rated for 270hp .. think for the work i would rather sell the 327 and buy a 302
 
im no chevy man, but it would be a shame to part out a car of that nature! a 66 SS 'vert... needs restored, not a parts donor for a ranger! :shok:

Definitely restore it, and then if you don't like it sell it and but stuff for the Ranger.

My father had a 64 Impala SS way back when, he said it was gutless. I think he had the auto & small engine combo though.

well..................... i own a 1962 chevy impala ss convertible my father got for me when i was 5. so im partial to the imps. its a shame to cut up and ss vert.



















but i would still encourage a sbc swap into a ranger. COME TO THE DARK SIDE...... WE HAVE COOKIES

well the impala isn't in the greatest shape the frames rotted away the interior is gone along with the top and the floor some of the panels are good the mag wheels are bent out of shape from sitting so long and I don't have a job to buy parts for it in between my grandfather and dad they have a high compression heads, forged pistons, a rebuilt kit, and a Carter AVS carb rebuild kit for the motor.
yea plus we don't have enough garage space left for it.:annoyed:
and I'm only 17:sad:

in this day and time there are no lost causes for restoration! it aint eatin nothin' or poopin in the ground... let it wait 'till you have money, place and time to fix it. like you said, your only 17 you will have plenty of time to fix the imp. later... or if you part it, plenty of time to regret not saving it!
 
LOL your right, I guess I just wanted to have a V8 so I could surprise the kids in their mustang's. Plus I would miss the good gas mileage anyway, I'm just tired of the Half-a-horse power jokes I'm getting:annoyed:
But what would be a good cheap engine swap?
Oh! grandfather has a 52 styleline for bodyparts I guess I could ask about that motor its a Inline 6 3.9L
I'll take any suggestions and tell me what you think of the 3.9L

honestly, either a turboed 2.3, or a junkyard 302 is gonna be the "cheapest" but remeber, no motor swap is cheap, specially when you dont have the motor to start with. a sbc can be done fairly cheap, if you get a donor car, and can weld up your own engine mounts. for you, id got 302 from a mustang or something.
 
turbo coupe thunderbirds are getting pretty cheap as a donor, ive always wanted a turbo 2.3 ranger.
 
Boy when I was 17 I got my grandpa's '48' Dodge Coupe and just loved it. Had all of 90hp but could go anywhere, wish I still had it. Deal with what you have now, deal with the future projects later. Any swap is not cheap if done right, only way to do it.

The turbo'ed 2.3 would be unique and I really don't want to do the 302 because there are five or so running around town just want something unique like an inline or a small block chevy excluding the 350 (to many) I wouldn't mind fabbing some stuff either:icon_welder:

no prob. ideally, a 327 or a 383 would be stout in a ranger. a worked 327 i mean. thats my all time second favorite engine.
