You'd be better off finding a low mileage truck with a detriot or cat- no newer than 2003.
2004 is when those damn EGR valves came out, so RUN LIKE HELL away from them. My 2004 cummins ISX (or maybe SUX?) has blown FOUR EGR valves and an EGR cooler so far- not quite 700,000 miles- those EGRs are $500 apeice without labor, plus the fuel mileage sucks a big green donkey d***. If it was me I'd find a 14 litre detroit in a 2003 vintage and run strong with decent MPG. When that wore out I'd get a glider kit and put that driveline into the kit. EGR no more!!
Really stay away from the 2007 or newer detroit- got the "fuel igniter" pollution system. Our first 2007 burned NINETY TWO GALLONS of fuel to burn soot out of the pipe in 15,000 miles. Not ONE of those gallons propelled the truck one inch. Thank you liberal SOB's at the EPA.
Can't wait to see the pics of the grenaded parts...
