what were they smoking when they made the cars be this vulnerable to remote attackers? and why the hell would brakes be computer controlled? i prefere to have my brake pedal goto the actuall break system and not be just a switch

It would probably be easier to rig up a carburated rig to be remote control than a EFI rig. How many thousands of middle school kids have RC airplanes? They are either electric or gas powered. All you need is a servo to the throttle linkage and you can not stop your crude little vehicle.

Exactly, we got air presses at work, all PLC programming is done via a LTP1 style serial port.

I FAIL to see how or why you would need access to critical car functions without connecting a cable or physically pushing a button....

I CAN see using your blue tooth phone to start the engine, etc.

..and I FAIL to see why you can't use older technology that does just as good, like we really need the computer to analyze the fuel mixture every 1/1000ths of a second.

I personally have noticed a lack of driving ability even in those with a wimpy 5 speed manual. It seems that the average motorist thinks they drive well. And them I get next to them and they turn to crap. It's not like the tanker is going to roll on top of them...

I think if you can't handle a 75ft truck with an 18 speed tranny, you should be forced to learn.

With Direct Fuel Injection engines coming out. We are going to need those fast PCMs'. At 6000 RPM's, 1x cylinder will need 50 squirts of fuel in 1 second. Besides, the OBD II is outdated and the Processor inside of it runs around at 6 MHz.

I don't automatic transmission. Too many little valves to get screwed up. Sure there are some benefits to an auto tranny. But a manual with last a lot longer.

Getting rid of electric start would probably thin the herd more than an automatic. Start regularly breaking the arms of stupid people and they would get a bike or do something different.

But cruder isn't better, it will just make stupid people struggle more with driving and thus more dangerous.

And I love my automatics. Sticks are fun to drive for awhile, but I won't be getting rid of my slushbox in my dd.

I agree. I drive a real manual at least 200 miles a day in urban and country settings. A transmission is another distraction if you aren't really used to it. Many people have no idea what gear they are in. If I was like that, I would be dead by now.

It wouldn't just be stupid people. I'm not the most coordinated person in the world. I'd probably break my arm every time I started a car.
