Hmm so I just got curious and looked up were haida gwaii is for some reason I was thinking it was a billion miles away in some far of land, don't ask me why I think the same thing about RSH too. which when I'm done typing this i'm going to look that up too. Any way so are part of canada or alaska? Your alot closer than I imagined you are aleast a days drive and a boat ride from Washington not too bad really, I might one day be able to see the GT12 in person.

alaska is just to the north of me-on a clear day i can see it from the beach across dixon entrance.when i go fishing,sometimes i'm closer to alaska than home.it's about 22 hours drive from vancouver to prince rupert,then a 7hr ferry ride across hecate straight to skidegate.an hour and a bit up the highway and you're in masset.

ask anyone you see where to find the guy with the crazy trucks,they'll point you in my direction

Well if i'm ever in that end of the US I might just head your direction. From the pictures it'll be worth the drive to stay there.

That's an interesting link. I was looking at the cost for the ferry. I guess you only go to the mainland when you absolutely have to?

the ferry up there is pretty standard for all of the ferries in bc...

that is correct.and it's all over the news now that those fares could be doubling over the next four years.i already have to budget $2000 minimum for a weekend trip to terrace.(ferry,gas,lodging,food,etc)

as much as i'd like to do that(i REALLY want to build an amphibious truck)i still wouldn't want to run to the mainland with it.hecate straight can be treacherous at the best of times,even in that big ferry you can be tossed around pretty good.

depends on the boat.

those amphibs were designed for river crossings and beach landings.they were extremely slow and couldn't handle rough water of any sort.you certainly wouldn't find one 30 miles out in the ocean,and particularly in as hazardous a waterway as hecate strait.

Hecate Strait, because it is so shallow, is especially susceptible to storms and violent weather. The Haida crossed the Hecate Strait to the mainland to plunder coastal villages to take slaves and booty. Only the Haida knew the real nature of the Strait's workings, and so could not be followed by the tribes of the mainland. Hecate Strait, therefore, was one of the main defenses of the Haida people from attack

Yes but with the way we knows u are it'd end up with sand rail padle tires and a jet engine. Btw I tried your idea with the cardboard box and the heater to make my fan shroud it worked awsome! Thanks
