i'd thought about monstering one of those a few times,but that 'one part gay' always kept me from doing it.

as promised,here's how the top plate was done.i started by tracing it from the plug onto a piece of sheetmetal.this will be my mold.after waxing and applying pva,i framed out the tracing with masking tape.this is just to make it so i can see where the edges are when i spray on the gelcoat.

then,after it was sitting flat,i sprayed the gelcoat on.note the pre-cut matt.

the top edge of the airdam was sanded,making sure it was flat and even across it's width,and to give some bite for the resin.

i layed down 3 layers of matt-one more than the face of the airdam as this is the part that will be mounted to the chassis.

while it was still wet,i poured a little more resin on the front edge,then placed the airdam down on it,and weighted it down with some steel.

i then trimmed the excess material from the front edge with a razor blade and removed it.

now,it's just a matter of waiting for it to set completely so the steel mold can be removed.

and there....outside of trimming the back edge i'll call this done.that trimming will need to wait till tomorrow,as it's dark now.

getting there....but i'll consider it true art when it all gets covered in paint so it looks like nothing was ever done.

my true test of workmanship is if an onlooker can't tell what's factory and what's custom.

that's it.and if you can do it so there aren't big slabs of filler falling off afterward,you've done it right.
i'm working real hard to get it so all i'll need is primer on this thing.we'll see how close to that dream i get.
