Growl, but not too loud

Hey guys, I’m looking for a new muffler for my 05 4l. I want it to have a good grumble or note, but not too loud. It’s my daily driver and a live in an apartment complex and don’t want to be “that guy”?
Any recommendations?

Back in the day Flowmaster 40 series was the ticket to put on your V6 to get a deeper rumble out of it.

Either a thrush turbo. Or a flowmaster 40. Flowmaster will be louder but chambered mufflers are the way to go on v6 to get a grumble out of them.

Thrush is good, never personally used anything other than thrush or flowmaster. Flowmasters are 2-3 times more than expensive than Thrush so you pretty much pay for the name.... I have a thrush welded on my 3.0 and it sounds way better than before. Has a nice rumble at idle where it kinda sounds like a v8 but it's not overly loud to the point where you are "that guy"

I live in an apartment, and I'm that guy. No ones complained yet. My Ranger has no muffler, two tips in front of the rear tire, MAC intake. It's loud, and I like it that way.

My Lightning sounds like it has a turbine engine under the hood, Borla catback, two back cats deleted. It's loud.

My two bikes are both loud, but not obnoxious when just tooling around. Only really nasty when you're beating it like a red-headed step child. LOL!

My Mustang is a work in progress. Already had a dual exhaust catback when I bought it. Just put a WeaponR intake on it. It's really the quietest vehicle I own. Not sure how long it will remain that way.

My apartments are pretty well soundproofed. I don't hear the other loud vehicles in my community when they roll by. Yours?

I had my Ranger at a friends machine shop some time ago, left it idling in the parking lot. It's way out in the sticks, so not a problem doing that. Anyway, his dad came in and asked me what kind of V-8 I had under the hood. Told him, 3.0 V-6. He's like, "sounds really good like a V-8". I don't have the turndowns on them anymore. Oddly enough, it's louder without them, to my ears anyway. Really need to get another set. They were impossible to keep clean due to the front tire always tossing junk at them. Internally, the tips are hollow. Nothing in them. Yeah, it rumbles alright.

When I first got my 03 I went with an aftermarket cat back. Exited with dual tips just behind the passenger rear tire. Sounded pretty good but rusted out in just a few years. When it fell off in the driveway, I ran sans-muffler for a couple of weeks. Sounded great! Nice throaty rumble, but a bit of a drone on the highway. Solution: Fab up a 2 1/2 pipe from cat back, exit ahead of passenger rear tire. Still sounds great, have a custom K&N setup with a cold air duct. Also have a custom chip tune. When they did the chip programming on the dyno, it was running 225 horsepower. When you mash the gas, sounds like a much bigger motor than a 4.0. Ya, I’m that guy too.........

Here is a clip of the Gibson cat-back I put on my Sport Trac when it was almost new. I thought it was kinda loud, especially inside the truck.

After 7 years the Gibson rusted a hole in it so I got a Flowmaster DBX attached to the Gibson pipes. It's a little quieter inside and rumbles nice, about as good as a V6 will sound. I like it a lot.

I am looking for mufflers for my Ranger too. I don't want it to be too loud or my wife will get mad at me. Lol. Are Magnaflow cat-back exhausts too loud?

My factory exhaust is 14 years old now... I know the day is coming but until it falls off... the factory exhaust is staying in place.
