My 87 2.9 samething, different day... In the last 2 weeks;installed new battery cables, fuel pressure regulater, ignition module, on distributor. The stock tail pipe is rusted with holes along with a 10 year old turbo muffler I cut off to see if it would help the surging and lack of power, nothing. Yesterday swapped out the computer---no change! The past few months; vacuum lines, air cleaner, fuel filter, rotor, plugs/wires. Had codes pulled-nothing. o2 sensor is about 10 years old also....the quest is still on

It idles healthy. Comp. check is on the to do list......

How is the fuel pressure?

so this idles fine... but going down the road it surges and has lack of power.
Does it seem fine for power ,like off stop sign??

might want to check vacuum pressure.

sometimes it runs like the engine got wet, and others like a couple of plug wires are off ? Not always consistant in it's moods...............
