Got my ship date today

Good luck, I know quite a few people where I live that joined the Marine Corps right out of high school. Keep positive, learn all you can, you'll do fine.

I second the Tanker MOS LOL that was my first MOS when I joined the Army National Guard, it was a lot of fun. Where do you park a 68 ton tank? Anywhere you want because there isn't anyone going to argue with 68 tons and a 120mm pointed at them.

Yeah, and I won't have to walk EVERYWHERE in the field. I scored high enough on the asvab that I qualify for literally every mos except for band, because I don't play an instrument.

^^^Don't let the recruiters lie to you about being a tanker LOL, I got told the same won't have to walk anywhere story, I think we walked more than the infantry we were hardly in tanks to drive anywhere other than to ranges for qualification, however maybe the Marine Corps is a little better about that.

My uncle went open contract, IIRC in '89. He was thrown all around and ended up in tanks. Sure did enjoy not lugging a light machine gun around.

Did all the paperwork, and concluded my physical evaluations at MEPS (military entrance processing station) Ft. Dix today. Swore in at about 13:15, am now an official USMC recruit. Scheduled to ship to Paris Island on June 10th 2013. Tomorrow I go to the recruiters again to make my MOS picks and will likely be going for heavy armor.

Oh joy will Paris Island be fun fun fun in the hot SC sun! But it'll be worth it in the end.

And, for when I'm not working overtime, or PT'ing, I have a brand new Warn M8000 sitting in the garage to go off road. Just need to fab me up a receiver mount. Got a trunk strap, snatch block, and some fresh 3/4" clevises too.

my brother is trying to go, but isnt sure if they are going to let him because he had shoulder replacement, but good luck

On a side note... I got my winch doohickey fabbed up today. It'll get sand blasted and painted black probably on Wednesday. Hopefully next weekend I can take it out and make it do some work.

A tad over due update. I had gotten moved up back in december. My ship date is april 8th. Next monday I'm gone. When I'm playing mental masturbation, I'll sure think about the ranger station and doing some 4 wheeling...

The guys who read the 4.0l section know my motor is toast, so I'm borrowing vehicles until I ship out. Probably get a super duty once I get the cash.
