my 94 ranger quit on me on black friday. it was running nice and smooth as i was letting it warm up as usual (after a night of 30 degree weather) when all of a sudden it was like someone truned off the key. the radio never stopped playing and the only reason i noticed it wasnt running was because i didnt feel it rumbling anymore. i gave it a funny look like a dog would when you tell it its bath time, then i turned the key and it started back up. it was missing so i gave it some skinny pedal and after a few seconds it cleared up so i figured id better keep up the R's and get home before it dies again. i made it about 500-1000 ft from where i was parked and it died again but this time it wouldnt fire up again. i held the pedal to the floor thinking maybe the plugs were too wet, i pulled the ecm relay incase the computer had a brain fart, i wiggled my grounds but they were all tight. i had my brother tow me home and once i got a chance to look at it after work i found that i had no spark at the coil. i put on a spare coil to make sure that my accel coil didnt crap out on my, but still no spark. i pulled the igniton control module (ICM) and swapped it with one on my parts truck (still unsure if that one is even good) and still no spark. i probed the 3rd pin with the red/green wire on the ICM connector and im getting 12v there as the manual states i should. i also probed the spout connector and im getting 3.8v out of it. i put my test light probe in the spout connector and cranked the engine over but my test light did not flash like the manual states it should so now im thinking pick up module in the distributor but i dont want to just start throwing parts at it and hoping it starts again. if anyone has any tips or procedures to confirm that either part is indeed bad id love to hear them. heres some pics because visuals always help

update!

i put a new ignition control module on it tonight, but still no start (i didnt think it would be that easy). i pulled the cap off the distributor and noticed alot more carbon tracking than i would expect to see on a cap and rotor set that is only 3,000 miles old. i was looking for instructions in the manual on how to test the ignition pick up module, but the haynes manual is not very clear when it comes to probing because they try to cover all motors in very general statements. i was going to take some more pictures as i was working but i was freezing my ass off and just wanted to be done so i dont have any yet. i think tomorrow ill just order another reman distributor and see if that solves the problem (i hate doing stuff like that but i do work at the parts store so i can warranty just about anything). id still like to hear any more ideas you guys have. :icon_confused:

got it figured out, there was no voltage at the injector connectors so we swapped out a spare distributor that i had in the parts cabinet and it fired right up. so tonight im going to swap in the new one that i had warrantied today and put on my new cap and rotor (got an accel set this time because the Standard Blue streak was no longer available at our warehouse) and then i should be good to go again, just in time for snow!
