Going electric....

So, I realized this morning that I haven't used my razor in at least two months, and have just been using clippers. At this point, I know time constraints are just going to get tighter and tighter in the mornings.

So, since I know a bunch-o old dudes who typically are known for 'lectric shavers, figured I'd ask if anyone out there had a recommendation on what's good/what's crap. Looked on Amazon, and there's a TON of them, so no idea what to get.

Looking for something that gives a high quality clean shave FWIW.

Don't know bout electric, but I'm sure this one would give you a "jolt"....

FWIW, every electric I've had over the years usually crapped out after 2-3 years, either the head or the battery, and to replace either, well, you might as well buy a new unit.
And, unless you have "peach fuzz", they will never give you a shave like a razor.

Are you talking Trimmers/Clippers or electric shavers. I do not use electric shavers. They tend to pull more than they cut, for me. I use Clippers with no guard, then i use an actual razor to get the scruff. I have used a lot of brands over the years.
Remington are great middle of the pack Clippers.
Wahl is a cheaper brand and less effective for my use.
Andis was probably the best I evet had until I dropped them and broke a tooth off.

I shave my head, so i dont skimp when it come to quality.

Actually, I've used a straight razor since my teens. It's good for when I have time, but that's in short supply in the mornings.

Ah, yeah, I'm looking for a shaver. I have a pair of Wahl clippers now that do OK for knocking stuff back, but need something to substitute for when I forget/run out of time for the badger brush and blade

That being the case, grab one of the $10 ones that use AA batteries to toss in the car. It's a great fallback for when you don't have time for a real blade.

I have a neurologic disorder that inhibits fine motor control. One of the few places it is noticeable is that my hands aren't steady enough to even use a safety razor without turning my face to hamburger, so I have been using electrics only since I was 13 or 14.

For most of that time I have used Norelcos. I stick to the cheaper ones, but they do work. I replace the blades about twice a year and the whole unit every two or three, usually because the clipper/trimmer blade is worn out. If I got a proper beard trimmer I could make a razor last about 5 years I think.

Even the high end ones don't do as good a job as a blade. I am usually scratchy again in 6 hours.

for an electric shaver, do not get a battery one, get one that is corded. (see above post on replacing the battery pack, it is spot on) I have a Norelco corded shaver that my grandpa bought for me when I graduated from High school in 1989, it still works, and I only had to replace the heads because I dropped it and damaged one of them....

My Remington beard trimmer is probably 15 years old, cordless cheapie one. Sometimes it doesn't always connect to the charger (new development) but it works when it has to.

I’ve been using electric for years and have decent results with it. I do have to break out a regular razor from time to time just because it doesn’t get everything but it good enough most of the time.

Yeah, things that never happened!

When I looked at the price of modern multi-edge razors, I switched to an old-style double edge razor. Been using it for years. You can get packs of 100 blades for cheap
- they aren’t the best, but I keep some better quality ones around for when it matters.

It rarely matters.

Double edge safety razor for me as well, when I bother shaving (infrequent). A hundred pack of blades has kept me going for maybe five years, with plenty left to use.

I shave every day using good old disposable three blade razors. I've tried lectrics and don't like the stubble they leave. Even the good one my wife (now ex) bought years ago, when I finished with it, It felt like what my face feels like now after 24 hours. You can keep your lectrics.

I shave every day because I don't want to look like that "caveman". You like it, you do it. Keep that hipster beard. I'll pass.

The electric works and is quick but leaves me itchy on the neck. The 5 blade manual I can use for a couple weeks before putting on a new blade and not as itchy.
If the beard wasn't so hot in summer I'd wear it year round because no itch.
