Note, if you have misfire, the O2 sensor numbers will be bogus to a degree. Bogus O2 numbers will mess up the computer's feed to the other cylinders as it cannot know they are functional, and don't need extra fuel to eat up the excessive O2's found(due to not being used up because of misfire).
Fixing the misfire before trying to diagnose fuel trims would be my method of attacking the problem.
I would do a compression test, and/or check the ignition system for failing bits. Measure the ohms of the plug wires, for example. If they are 'open' the spark voltage needed to fire the plug will be increased as the voltage must also jump gaps in the wire...

Just took it in for service. This stuff is well above my pay grade.

Getting my father's 00 Ranger back on the road...Project Moby Dick

Got the truck back from the shop today. They didn't do any work on it but pointed out the problem, which was the #2 fuel injector, to me so I could work on it. They're good guys and didn't want to charge me an arm and a leg for something like that. I ended up buying the last injector the parts store had for my truck and bought a blower resistor for the fan. I put those pieces in and put it back together.

Guys...that truck runs smooth and quiet! It's a pleasure to drive and I know my father would be happy that I got it running.

Thank to all of you who contributed suggestions and pointed me in the right direction.

Now all I've got to do is put the bedliner back in.

Well...everything was going well until I tried to swap the stock gauges for one from a 2000 Ranger with a tach. The needle would rise slowly and start fluttering around 35-40mph. Jim Oaks had a write up about testing the speed sensor for resistance. It tested 1.98 when it shouldn't exceed 1.4. Plus it had a big crack in it.

If it ain't one thing it's another.

Not long ago I had the truck inspected to see what they could find. I was told the timing belt was badly cracked and needed immediate replacement. Took it to a different shop and had it replaced. They showed it to me afterwards. It was cracked everywhere! $400 later the truck runs better than it did before.

Just did the zip tie throttle cable mod. Good golly golly gosh, what a difference!

On another note, I've picked up a console from a Mountaineer and have started the process of modifying it to work in a manual transmission Ranger. I'll be reupholstering the console lid soon in black marine vinyl. Once the console is refinished I'll be able to work on putting in the explorer seats. Still need to get cluster lights for the Sport Trac gauge cluster I picked up.

With all of these parts from so many vehicles, I ought to call it the Frankenranger. [emoji3446]
