My credo
Complacemcy is the key by which tyrrany opens many doors.
I'm weighing in between these two tires. Same price. Same size. The General is a highway tire with a 60,000-mile warranty, the other is an A/T with a highway tire-like tread pattern and 70,000-mile warranty. I really like the looks of the Hankook, but I wonder about hydroplaning with that tread pattern. My truck won't see much off road action outside of taking whatever gravel road to whatever campsite I might tow a small popup to, but I live in the town of Pothole, South Carolina, in Pothole County, where we have the pothole festival and our football team the Fighting Asphalt marches down Main Street in memory of when we had roads.

What would you get?

I have never had a set of General tires that I liked, imho they are all junk.

I have ran two sets of the Grabber AT's and I really like them.

Those two tires are not really super comparable, one is a AT and one is a HT.

I’ve never run General tires yet in any flavor, but personally I’m not a fan of that tread pattern on that particular General tire, just looks like a highway tread to me.

I have run a set of Hankook Dynapro AT2 tires. My green Ranger came with a new set when I got it. They look like a good tread, but in my opinion, they are not good. Wear like iron, but didn’t like gripping wet roads and were absolutely useless in snow. I realize that snow isn’t really a factor where you live, but for me it is. The absolute last straw was when my 20 minute work commute turned into an hour and a half nightmare sliding all over the road in 4-low crawling at a max of 15 mph and almost getting stuck at every stop in about 3” of snow. They got replaced with Mastercraft Courser CXT tires and I never looked back.

My F-150 has the old pattern Mastercraft CT tires. Dad’s Ranger has CXT. Mom’s Explorer has AXT. My Choptop has MXT. No complaints on the performance of any of those.

My 92 Ranger came with new Kenda Klever MT tires. I was skeptical at first, but they wore like iron and I had traction for days. I’d buy a set of Kendas.

Personally, I prefer an aggressive AT pattern for my rigs. They end up off paved surfaces frequently, so they need to handle gravel/dirt/mud/snow. Even my lowered AWD Ranger has paddled its way through a muddy field.

We sold some trucks with Hankooks and didn't get complaints but I was never a fan of their tread patterns. I've owned 2 sets of Generals, one set came on a 95 Contour I bought new and one set I bought for my Mustang when I first got it on the road in late summer 1990. Both sets stopped vibrating when I replaced them.

i would look at the weight of each one and probably go with a highway or street tire since you have the 2.3. it doesn't sound like you need an AT tire though so i would go for efficiency and generally all-around good road performance

My 2019 came with Hankooks. For a highway terrain tire, they were pretty good. I've never had any General tires that I can remember.

As far as tread pattern, for around here, the General would be a hard pass. That tread pattern sucks in the snow. It probably wouldn't be all that great on wet grass either. I would pick the Hankook if only givwn a choice between the two.

I don't like either brand. But... out of those 2 tires, I like the Hankook better. I would be more concerned with hydroplaning with the General. It just doesn't seem to have good pathways for water to move sideways. It (water, mud, etc.) would just get trapped in those longitudinal grooves where it can only escape to the front and rear.
