gearing for a 44 and 9"

^^^^ That's not 'wheelin', that competing.....big difference. Rock crawling in boulders larger then your tires, with a heavy foot is a sure fire way to break any parts, d44/d60/rockwell.

Back to the OP's question, running 35's/37's and going to a v8 gearing to 4.56/4.88 should be sufficient. 5.13's are a lotta crawl for a v8, and not really needed for a vehicle that will see a lot of street time.

lol you really put all that work in to a "wheeler" just to baby it, do you take it to town with mom to buy shoes or go wheelin?.

x2

He obviously doesnt wheel it that hard, which is ok for him... doesnt make you any less of a man so dont get bent out of shape first off.

secondly... I agree w/ the 44 not being enough with 37's.. for the cost of a 44 to handle hard wheeling on 37's you can get a 60 going.

that video Branger posted where he broke, wouldnt even phase my truck... Its always nice to know im not going to break instead of being worried about it.

btw I dig your ride branger, i like the way you did the back.

your right, driving to the mall is wheeling, im sorry i got confused there.. :icon_rofl:

this is like EXACTLY what i already posted as an answer before you started picking me apart... you must feel smart..... arguing on the internet is like like the special olympics, even if you win you are still retarded. happy wheelin! im on to better things now.

Good luck with the gear install and buildup or your junk Mr. hummer!

that actually wasnt that hard of an obstacle.... It would of been pretty easy with a 60... I think that was Branger's point.

:icon_idea: my point exactly, couldnt have said it better myself.

Blah Blah Blah, if you have money get a D60.....

35/37" for a daily/wheeler is fine on a chomo'd 44.

37"+ for a wheeler/comp rig is D60 material.

I'm not getting bent outta shape, I could careless what people think of my wheeling ability, I get the places I need to go without a heavy foot. If I was even considering competing in my truck it'd be getting built 9"s with 60 outers. But for the average guy, with 35's or slightly larger (most 37's are 35" anyways, 38+ seem to be truer to size) a d44 will hold up just fine....

you can buy a dana 60 and lock it, for cheaper than you could build a chromo dana 44, and i dont think you want me to get into 9 inchers too.. better off go 60 rear aswell unless ur lookin at buying a 9'' and throwing money at it to make it dana 60 strength
i also, am not getting worked up, i just went threw this whole money spending on 1/2 ton axles thing and finally when i crunched the numbers i damn near kicked myself in the head could have had built 60's. re gearing 60's is money much better spent for a wheeler. just hoping i can help him save a buck or 2 so hes not out like me..
my 9'' from that same day..

agreed.... a stock D60 is stronger than a built 44.

Maybe where you live, but around here it takes a five finger discount to get one under a grand Can. and that gets you a stock diff. I traded a set of steelies that cost me $100 for my d44, gears were $140, Detroit $300....shafts are $500 a set, or cheaper used.

Oh, and I like the dovetail too...I just need the box space in my truck, so it's getting a tube bed when the time comes.

***And for built D60 $$$, you can build rocks....where does it end?***

not hasseling you at all. just an example.
you got ur d44 for $100 because you traded. some people pay $200-400$ for them,or more from wreckers.

cheapest shafts ive found are from northwest fab w/joints for $650 and taxes..

150 for gears. another 150 for install kit and labour$$$ if u didnt set them up.

i payed $600 for my lockrite.. (at 300 ur detriot had to be used or stolen?)

my dana 44 costed me over $1600 to build and that doesnt include all the parts ive had to pay to replace.

You built you dana 44 as you mentioned for over 1000 bucks and you bought used parts? and you also had to buy install kit? aswell as ujoints? where as a

Kingpin HP ford dana 60's go for $1000 at the wreckers, even cheaper if you can find an old beat up 1ton or get them from a buddy. I payed $800 for mine with 4:10 gear. there not hard to find cheep you just have to look.

Ya, it's 6 one way/ half dozen another. If I was to do it again, I'd buy the used set of built $3000 one ton's and be done with it but it went the way it did. The OP's already got the axles, so he might as well start there.

I think the OP's got his answer, so I'll just leave it for now.

i saw the words "planning to put a fullsize d44/9 inch in my ranger and weld it for wheelin with 37's"

didnt think he had the axles already and somehow that sentence scares me :icon_twisted:

Ugh....too many threads...too many forums.....My dyslexia is kicking in.
