will aftermarket gears from a 7.5 fit a 8.8??
I would like to do a axle swap down the road and was wondering if they were compatable

If you take a little time to do some searching, you could upgrade to an 8.8" rear with the gears you want (up to 4.10s, 4.56s are hard to find) for less than it would cost to have aftermarket gears put into your 7.5". Since you have a 4x4 you'll have to change the front too. Do a search on www.car-part.com and have it sort the results by distance.

no they wont work, 7.5 means that the ringgear its self is 7.5 inches tall, 8.8 means the ring gear is 8.8 inches tall, trying to put those gears in would be too small in a 8.8, 8.8 gears would be too big in a 7.5

its almost always better (cheaper) to wait to regear until you actually have the axle that you want to stay with. there is now way to get back the installation cost and used gears usually only go for 1/2 to 2/3s of the new price. get the 8.8 you want first. dont waste your money.

I've been putting up with 4.10s and 35" tires cause it wasn't worth regearing axles i'm gonna pull this year.

Wait till you know what axles you want to use. If later you decided to upgrade again you can at least sell a built axle.

A buddy of mine sold his ARB 4.88 D30 for 1200 bucks.
