gear swap prices?

If you do the swap deff get an 8.8 rear. U will maby save some money having the rear done out of the truck. Then bring the truck down or pull out ur front chuck an do them. Most shops near me charge more if still in truck.

how much is the swap if you install gears yourself, i have 31's and 3.73 gears right now, its a 8.8 also. shops rape people on the prices its good to know handy people lol.

It cost me only $180 total to put 5.13s in my 8.8 rear, which Todd and I installed. For the front D35, I was lucky enough to buy the whole pig with a Lockrite and 5.13s already set up for just over $200.

With gears you need to know exactly what you're doing, and the setup must be dead on or you'll be sorry after only a few hundred miles.

The shops do not really "rape" people on gear setups. The process is very time consuming and requires specialized knowledge.

With 5.13's dont you have clearance issues, that's what I was told when I tried to get 5.13's so I went with 4.88's.

yea evan thats what im talkin about, that price is more like it, i already have an 8.8 and things, blackdog has 4.10 gears and a newer explorer limited slip i think ill prob pick up here soon, my rear end is an r6 limited slip but it has 256k not sure if its ever been replaced though, will i suffer any mpg?

Clearance issues with what??

I got 5.13s also, went right in no problem.

And agreed on the gear swap, if you don't have the tools and knowledge, chances are it's not going to last. Gears have to be set up within a tolerance of a couple thousandths, yet different housings and carriers can easily vary twice that. Pulling gears out of one axle and sticking them in another is asking for gear failure.
Replacing the whole axle as a unit however, no problem there, that's completely doable with regular tools.
