Gear selection...

You have a stick or auto?

With the auto, I have to agree with everyone else here, 5.13s w/35s no matter what, even on the interstate. If you have a stick (M5OD), then it's gonna be between 4.88 & 5.13... I'd still go 5.13 if you plan to be wheeling it a lot, 4.88 if you frequently run on the freeways and like to bust rural speed limits.

(reason for the above is the auto has a little steeper OD gear, .75:1 vs. .79:1 for the M5OD).

With 33s, then simply go down a step on your gearing (auto = 4.88, stick = 4.56 or 4.88)

I have a stick, and i would say the truck will be about 60% on road and 40% off.

usa
yukon

i'd spring for yukon if possible. their warranty is TOP NOTCH!!! buddy of mine has stripped his d44 gears twice, and they have replaced them both time

Yukon is good.
Nitro Gear appears to be decent also (and has more ratios available).

I'd shy away from Genuine Gear and USA Standard.

That sounds like a warranty for me!:icon_thumby:

I had read alittle on yukon and they seem to be pretty good as far as i read. A couple of buddies say they like them too. I have never heard about the other two so Good thing you guys posted stuff up.lol:icon_cheers:

oops.. yeah. nitro was the other one i meant. not usa.. lol.

i'd go yukon. they are the most known for a reason ya know.

Fair enough lol I just wanna get the best because i dont really have the money to throw around.lol

When I buy gears- I'm gonna spend the money up front and get the better gears and the warranty they offer.

The d44 only broke 2 times because he was airborn both times and landed on one side first with 38's. So it was a lot of weight suddenly on one side. It wasn't yukons fault at all. He's hard on his rig.

I totally hear ya man. If im puttin expensive stuff in my pickup I'm buyin the best so I don't have to worry too much about them. And gettin somethin with 38's airborne must be pretty hard.lol
