gear ratio help...

hey guys, ive just recently bought a 2008 ranger 2.3l 4banger manual! I am about to put a 5 in. lift with 31in tires and 15in wheels. I was hoping somebody would be able to tell me what gear ratio i should buy and how much they might be. Any suggestions would be great. thxs

go look at your door cold and read what it says under axle or crawl under your truck and look at the rear dif cover there should be a little tag on it that says your ration

4.56s are what your going to need to pull those 31s, precision gear is a good replacement, there gunna run you about 200 or more, you need to find out what size rearend you have, if you have the smaller 7.5 you might have trouble finding a low set of gears, but if you have an 8.8 you won't have any problem finding the gears you need

Go to 4wheelparts.com or call them but I use and abuse precision gears in my 8.8 with no problems, you might even want to see about getting an 8.8 swap, its cheaper than regearing your weak 7.5 and the 8.8 is stronger and has more gear options, when I blew out my 7.5 most of the shops I called wanted about 700+ to rebuild with the gears I wanted, so I called around and found a shop that had a used 15,000 mile 8.8 and they put the 4.10s in it for me for about 550, and it bolted right up with no problems! Just a thought for ya
