gear ratio

the guy i bought the truck from said he had the rear rebuilt. I noticed when i pulled the center cap of to change the tires that he had yukon axles installed...are these factory or aftermarket because if they are aftermarket then the guy might have changed the gear ratio aswell

Unless he went to like a 6.4:1 (which you can't get) ratio then, no he didn't change anything with the ring and pinion... I think something else is wrong, are you sure your tachometer is correct?

from the sound of it most likely my tach is off but anyways. i just wanted something that wasnt as loud at highway speeds and cruised better. Cuz i have a gutted cat and a flowmaster 40 and at 55 its loud. so i was wondering if i could get away with 3.73 and still get decent acceleration but have better cruising

It's not going to improve your gas mileage. It blows my mind that you installed an intentionally loud muffler and illegally modified your catalytic converter, then decide to complain about noise levels. The source of the problem seems obvious.

Honestly, going to 3.73's would more than likely reduce your gas mileage, will make it more sluggish, and will restrict you to going to a slightly larger tire if you ever wanted to... BTW, gutting your cats does nothing but break the law... I'd redo my exhaust if I were you, put a real cat back on it and maybe a less aggressive muffler...

a 2.9 with 4.10's is about ideal, but I'd seriously consider slightly larger tires.

when I was still running a 2.9 I was already running 235/75-15's
when I switched to 4.10's.

Now that I have a 4.0 the 4.10's are just a bit "much" for long distance
highway cruising.

the 4.0 is an absolute pig when cruising above 2500rpm.

With my gears I get <2000rpm at 55mph in 5th, but I have a mazda trans
and thus a bit more overdrive than your A4LD
