Gear shift indicator assembly

Try this part number: Ford NL5Z-7A110-A

I have never seen parts sold separately, its an all or nothing assembly, lol

This is the little plastic bracket that gets broken off:

I just took mine apart and the loops OK but not working when pull on the loop. Is that same problem you had or did your loop break. Thanks

He hasn't been online in a year so I doubt you will get an answer

No plastic part is OK not broken. Almost seems like cables seized ? Also, should that plastic arm that cable attaches to move. It doesn't. I had engine running brakes on. Everything shifts fine. Wondering about the arm not moving and maybe need the whole assembly. Like I said plastic piece is OK and cable loop not broken. But DOES NOTmove indicator when I pull on it. Thanks

Can you pull the cable off of the arm it attaches to, and try pulling on it? It's spring loaded and defaults to the Park position, should be pretty easy to pull the cable out and the gear indicator should move to different positions as you pull. If it does not, safe assumption that your problem is somewhere in there. The arm on the column should move I believe, that's how it pulls on the cable to change what gear the indicator is on.

Yea something has to be seized. Couldn't move arm and pulling on cable didn't change indicator. I'll give it a go again in 2 days first decent warm day in months. Back to-10 tomorrow. Thanks for your help Appreciated!

There’s a spring in the assembly, if that spring isn’t doing its job, then the cable won’t work. There’s not much to them but you really have to open the dash and pull the assembly out of the bottom of the cluster. Then you can see the mechanism and find out what exactly is broken. I had a cable break and just snagged one out of a junkyard years ago. Whole mechanism is arguably kind of delicate so it’s easy to break stuff if you’re not careful.

Thanks a lot for that info. I'm guessing that you're right. Cable didn't moved indicator when pulled. Going to replace whole assembly I believe. Thanks again, appreciated!
