Gave the ranger character(pictures!)

The hood is likely jammed - there is a squarish loop of steel attached to the hood that hooks into the hood latch mounted on the core support. You probably jammed that back into the latch, which jams the latch. I've got them free before but it's a tricky thing sometimes.

Know an easy way to get it unatached?

You'll need to either repair the inner fender or replace it, along with the core support. Both are probably mashed up pretty good from the looks of things.

What exactly is the core support(like where and a picture, perhaps?)? I work on my cars to fix some common stuff, but nothing like this..so it should be a good learning experience.

To put an 01+ front bumper on will require the mounting brackets, not just the bumper. Your bumper brackets are damaged anyway and would require being straightened or replaced. A torch can be your friend.

The passenger side is damaged, but its nothing that a hammer and heat can't fix, so i am not too worried about it. I will probably put a piece of wood or something of the sort on it until winter is over, that way i don't get in trouble with the 5-0

You'll need a new grill and headlight assembly. You'll also need a new header panel (the fiberglass piece that your grill and headlights attach to). There is no repairing those once they get mashed like that. And it's one piece that goes all the way across. New ones list for over $100 plus shipping.

New grill is 35 (new aftermarket), headlight assembly will run around 60 for used (complete set). The header panel is only 45 shipped.

The outer fender may be repairable.

Yes, I've been here before.

The outer fender isn't even touched.

Insurance is coming today to look at it..the guy called his in. I am able to fix it myself (thought they had to have a shop do it). After i fix it i might put a brush guard on it. Any suggestions?

There is no easy way unless it's wrinkled bad enough to get your hand and a ratchet under there to remove both bolts that hold the wire loop for latching the hood to the hood. Otherwise it will require a selection of prying equipment, a strong grasp of geometry, a little cussing, and a lot of finesse.

The core support is that main piece of sheet metal in the front of the truck that the headlight/grill support bolts to and that your radiator is attached to.

The bottom of the outer fender on the passenger side is bent up. The bracket it bolts to is probably twisted to junk on the bottom there and the inner fender may be tweaked.

Where are you finding a replacement header panel for only $45 shipped? Not even the junkyards around here are that cheap.

It is. You just may not know it yet. Trust me, I've worked on enough wrinkled sheetmetal to know.:icon_welder:

I took it to a buddy and he got it undone within 1 minute..still don't know what he did.

It is damaged a bit, but it is under the headlights and doesn't effect anything, so i am going to leave it as is.

I wish you would stop saying the fender is damaged, when it is not at all. The only thing that is damaged is the core support, but nothing that will effect driving or anything else.

If you know so much, then you never really needed our advice anyway. Good day to you sirs.

ive seen trucks your year totalled for less then that much damage, the cost for a shop to repair is gonna be retarded, and lets hope u didnt hit just right to BEND THE FRAME because that can happen even at 10mph.

finding the parts is one thing, actually fixing it and doing the work is another

I ended up getting 1,246$ from the accident. Cost me 400$ in parts to fix it. The only thing that will be a challenge is the horn that holds on the bumper got bent in a bit (The side flanges) but they should be able to be bent back with some heat and a hammer. Worst comes to worst i have to make new ones.

Good thing the only real question(s) i have asked was about the different years of bumpers, and how to get the hood unstuck. Quit acting like you know so much and stop telling me what is damaged, when clearly you do not know. Come look at the car before you tell me what's wrong.

I'd recommend shelling out the money to have the frame checked for straightness before you sink a single dime into replacing body panels or other crap. That light hit may have caused that framerail to be pushed back a bit.

Even though it looks like only the passenger side is damaged, the driver and passenger side are attached together via the inner fenders and radiator support. it is not only possible that the driver side is damaged but it's also quite likely. How many measurements have you taken to make damn sure that the whole front end isn't tweaked to the side? How about whether the frame is diamond shaped? Your LACK of asking questions shows how ignorant you are about body work, bringing this to any competent body shop will show you why you got a $1200 payout and think it will cost you $400 to fix. Lil Blue Ford has been in your predicament a few times and has learned, you don't need to jump down his throat for trying to help you out.

I am just going to fix it. I had a buddy who has worked on cars for 30 years check it out, and he said everything was just cosmetic, minus the horn. The thing still drives as straight as it did before, so i should be fine.

The adjuster told me (and i know they are not always right, before that is pointed out) that the main reason it is so high is because of the passenger side horn being bent, which i have stated previously. If it wasn't for that then i would have received much less.

I am not meaning to jump down anyones throat, but when i repeatedly say that everything is fine besides cosmetics, then obviously i have had it checked out.

i hate to hear that. but what really sucks is i just threw away my 00 front end that i had taken off my 00 to do the edge front end conversion. i woulda gave it to u. header panel, grill, hood, lights and all

Thank you! :icon_thumby:

I would have it thrown on a frame rack just to be sure it's straight. I've driven behind trucks that go down the road damn near sideways and it looks retarded. Nothing like being able to see the side of a truck when you're directly behind it.

if the horn is bent then the fram is probably too....

and just because someones been working on cars for 30 years doesnt mean they cant be a incompetent mechanic

you know guys even if he has his frame checked hes not gonna check back in here after being a dick about lol

The whole horn is not bent, just the flanges.

It will be fine.
