Gas Theft

just got gas a hour ago, was $4 a gallon here but a drive to a neighboring town 16 miles away just in to the next county its a bit cheaper. Diesel is currently $5 a gallon, E85 isnt much better than reg 87, not enough cheaper to warrant the 3-4 mpg drop .

I think I’d be making a plate to cover that hole out of maybe 1/4” and space it off the frame by a quarter. I’ve started to think about skid plates and such with the rising cost of everything, won’t stop everyone, but it’s a deterrent. Couple German Shepherds with free roam of the property would help too. Cameras aren’t the best but they can be a help, my mechanic buddy had a guy slash a tire outside his garage, the dummy looked straight at the camera for a long couple seconds before slashing the tire. Turned out it was pretty easy to get an ID off of that and it was also easy to find at least 6 other tires that were slashed that night in about two blocks and the guy appearing on another camera once they knew what to look for. BTW, 4 or more tires slashed goes from misdemeanor to felony here. Oh, and if you do get cameras, get something 1080p or better, much easier to identify things with better resolution.

A buddy/co worker of mine had his tools stolen once. By chance he has left his apple watch in there and was able to locate it using the tracker. Long story short located the watch, kicked the thiefs ass, got the tools back, and the cops arrested him for having a bunch of other stolen stuff.

You're not supposed to run E85 in new Rangers anyway. Either regular gas or E15. I run E15 in mine all the time, no change in mpg. Costs 30 cents less than regular 87.
Regular gas here is 10% ethanol anyway.
My wife's Chrysler minivan is Flex Fuel E85 rated but she's tried it and you are correct, the mpg drops enough that it doesn't really cost less in the end than regular gas.

Yes, ethanol is an interesting fuel
NASCAR runs E15

E85 has octane rating of 100 so good to run in higher compression engines or turbo/super charged engines, actually makes better power and similar MPG, burning ethanol generates less heat and cools the incoming air more
But in regular engines, under 9.5:1 compression ratio, 15% less MPG

Any ethanol added does help clean up an engine from gasoline's residue, so E15 is a good compromise

E85 is cheaper because it doesn't need most additives for cleaning and octane boosting

If the vehicle is rated for it. The 2019 Ranger is rated for E15 but that is the absolute limit. Anything more than 15% is listed under "Do Not Use" I've considered trying it but it isn't something regularly offered around here. It might have to wait for a future excursion out of state.

The yellow handle at Sheetz is E85. Blue handle is E15. Not all Sheetz have it, the one in Rochester does but the one near my work in Wexford does not.
Also the MySheetz card gets you 3 cents off and a Sheetz credit card gets you 5 cents so I use both and get 8 cents off a gallon.

I don’t go over that way often. I may have to swing through Moon and see if the Sheetz there offers it. I tend to avoid that area after work due to the traffic but it’s pretty dead at 05:30 in the morning.

I haven’t been to the one in Moon for a while so I don’t recall if they have it or not.

I swung through Moon on the way to work. They have E15 on the pumps that don’t offer diesel.

Gas is $6/gal here. Gas theft stories are all over the news daily. Cost me $95 bucks of 87 octane to fill up the ranger.

It isn't quite that much in the Sacramento market. Most stations are around $5.50. I ended up downloading the 76 gas app to get a discount. It isn't much, but it is something.

dang. the cost of living in cali. crazy gas prices for you guys.

well, crazy for us too but really crazy for yall

Just run a bottle of good fuel system cleaner like Chevron Techron at every oil change. Regular gas is 10% ethanol and clogged the injectors after 60k in my old truck, had to have them professionally cleaned. A bottle of Chevron every 5000 miles since then and had no issues for the next 150k.

I run that every Spring and Fall. Something I learned quite some time ago. Seems to work. I've yet to need to get them cleaned professionally since I started do it.

EDIT: IF I run E15, it will just be an experiment to see what happens. I'd rather run E0.

The Ecobeast seems to like a bit of extra octane. I averaged 19-19.5 mpg on 87 and 20-21 with E15 or 89. If I run 89 the extra cost is a wash since the mpg is better. MPG with 93 was no different. I run E15 when I can and save 20-30 cents but if I hit a Sheetz that doesn't have it I get 89.
