Hey guys. I have a hole in the gas tank or the filler neck of my Ranger and I was wondering if I should try patching it with some permapoxy type stuff or if I should just go all out and replace whatever part is leaking?

I've never dealt with gas tanks before, so I figured I might as well ask and learn from your experiences.

If it's the neck replace it, if it's the tank it can be fixed. I don't know the particulars of the story, but apparently something happened to my tank back in the mid-90s ("It exploded" in my dad's words which can mean anything from "it got a pin-hole leak" to "It actually exploded")

Anyway, he claims that he had it welded back together, although I can't see the evidence of it. Then again he also claims the guy told him the new tank capacity was 12 gallons and I have routinely put in 13-15 gallons every week for the last 5 years.

Get the welder out. Just don't blow yourself up. :icon_welder:

i think the tank would be platic. if its the neck replace it. if its the tank idk lol

Tanks aren't that much cash. Why bother taking a chance? Replace.

My daughter's ranger had a tank with a couple of pin holes and I replace it this past December. The tank was 30 and shipping was 50. I think I got it on ebay, but don't remember for sure. I would replace and then you don't have to worry about it starting to leak elsewhere.

Because I don't have that much cash, and I can't find a place that sells tanks. Honestly.

My Mustang leaked gas out of the seal between the tank and the filler when I bought it - $30 seal at the dealership, replaced it as soon as I knew it was leaking because money was literally leaking on the ground when I'd take left turns. The longer you wait the more you lose. :icon_twisted: Crawl under there and see what you're working with.

Just junked a 93 with good tank sorry but its plastic.Probably where the gas gauge is screwed down.Or the filler neck tie in.What the other ranger guys have said is take off the bed and see what you got.

Mine did the same thing. I looked everywhere except the dealership and could never find the proper grommet. I guess the dealership aint all that bad afterall.

mine did the same, it was the filler neck. pick n pull has them for about 15 bucks.. not hard at all to replace. took about an hour with taking the bed off
