I am looking for info about swapping a 2ndgen xcab plastic tank into a 1stgen xcab. Is it a direct swap, or what would I have to do to make it work?

Put the stock tank back in it, and move outta Jersey!:icon_thumby::icon_rofl:
Really, IDK, but I had to say it. That Jersey rust kicked my *ss while building my truck.

I recently had my tank out of my 88' to temp. patch a rust hole. I was wondering the same thing, because the shape of the tank zeros my gauge even though I still have 5 gallons left. My concern was getting an older sending unit to fit the newer plastic tanks, cause I am pretty sure everything changed after 89 with the resistance and all that. But if it could be figured out I would be all over that. First gen tanks are too small.

the 1st gen lwb tanks are about 17 1/2 gallons. the swb tanks are about 15 1/2 gallons. depending on how you use your bed, i put a used 27 gallon aluminum boat tank in the bed of mine. it is about 48x21x8 inches high. fits perfect and gives me lots of cruising range, especially when both it and the original tank are full. just a thought.
