Gas tank and mpg questions, new to me used 2006, bear with me.

You fellas are making my head spin!
I't like my understanding of wiring: White to White, Black to Black and Green goes anywhere. They're way above my head, time for another "Beverage"!

you get better milage as long as you keep it under 3k. 3k is the computer switchover point from closed loop to open loop. and once you cross that line the computer goes to a map that isnt adjusted constantly like it is below 3k when it reads all the sensors. Thebest milage I ever got was a trip from oklahoma city to whichita kansas. 500 miles out of one tank, about 35mpg. I had a tail wind almost the whole way but on th way back I had a complete willys go-devil engine in the bed. truck was bone stock then.

your rpms have nothing to do with when your trk is in closed or open loop. open loop is when your accelerating heavily or decelling a long time, your computer is reading the map and riding the curve per rpm/throttle position/and cfm from the mass airflow sensor. closed loop trims the map slightly and makes corrections using the oxygen sensor during idle and cruising, no matter what the rpm. thats what all the efi classes ive had from honda/yamaha and reading everywhere carwise has to say. you can cruise 4k or 2k and its closed loop. the best thing you can do is cruise in the torque peak for the engine based on your cam. in the case of the stock 3.0 its around 3000-3500 rpm the 2.3 lima around 2200-4200 and the 4.0 around 2500 rpm from what ive been reading. ive owned a 3.0 and currently drive a 2.3 lima i can tell you thats where the motor feels best at in any gear. 4.0 i cant say much for only rode in 2 trks with it.

wow you guys are having an ethanol discussion too i see lovely. ill quote the chevrolet flex fuel owners manual in a 2005 silverado pickup: e85 has less energy but a cleaner burning fuel than regular gasoline however it requires 2 tanks of e85 to get the same mileage as one tank of gasoline. dont believe me look it up they quoted it in the manuals lol. the problem with it is your running race gas in a low compression engine, either add more compression or more more air and you can maintain the same amount of economy on the same amount of either fuel. e85 is such an oxidizer that it has a high octane score. when you add e85 to a high compression engine such as 12:1 for example and tune it out it gets wonderful economy and has excellent power. you add the same fuel to a 9:1 engine to keep the burn rate up you have to dump more fuel to keep the engine happy. same thing with premium gas, you add premium gas to a 9:1 engine the the motor is going to use more fuel. high octane fuel doesnt have the same burn potential or quality in a low compression engine. it has to richen to achieve the same slow burn quality thats why when you add premium fuel to an engine that calls for regular you hav a mileage decrease. regular fuel in a low compression engine has a slower and more even burn potential so it does better. regular fuel in a high compression engine however doesnt burn all the way and causes pinging from dieseling/preignition from higher cylinder temps. e10 oxygenates the fuel a lil better and results in a cleaner burn, thats its purpose, but for best mileage it would be better to up compression slightly to help it run better. in the case of the 3.0 heads the flexfuel heads have a different chamber design to compensate for this. 2.3 limas do not, unsure of the 2.3 dura as im not very familiar with this engine. theres one guy on here (cant remember his name) who has a 2.0 chevy ecotec motor making 500hp on e85, got help from the team that built the 2.0 drag ecotec thats pushing 1400hp turbocharged with methanol at 14:1 compression. all about the type of fuel and the tune for each type of fuel in the environment its in, thats where you unleash a fuels true power potential.
