Junked tanks

Try www.car-part.com and do a nationwide search of the junkyards. A hell of a site for hard to find parts.

Several junk yards not too far away have them. One is charging $100 for the tank plus labor charges to pull it (3 hours, which seems WAY too long to take off two straps and the cap that contains the lines & such). Another one quoted me $85 for a 2001 gas tank, which should fit. That doesn't seem too unreasonable. It's such a minor leak, that I'm going to try to seal it somehow before buying another one.

hey, i saw your pics, that is kinda wierd. How long you owned the truck? I'm not particularly mechanically inclined, but my guess is it's from some prior, repair, ordeal, whatev... oh wait, but you wanted to know how to fix it? ha, ha couldn't tell ya, but yeah with prices these days, I can see why you'd want too. Maybe somebody's usin that to siphon your gas?

I've only owned it for a few months. My dad originally bought it new as a commuter vehicle. After 150,000 miles He decided upgraded to an F-150, so I got a good deal on it. If any sort of repair was done, neither of us knew about it. I'm planning on installing a Magna Flow muffler with a cat-back, so I can't weld on it with the gas fumes. Plus, I get tired of breathing in gas fumes every time I work on it when I have over a half tank of gas.

Go to www.car-part.com follow the promps and type in your make, model and year in the text boxes and choose gas tanks or fuel tanks. I will bring up pages of places to get gas tanks and you will be amazed at the pricing. I bought a brand new tank for my 85 Ranger for 50.00 plus 20.00 shipping. That was from a place in Wisconsin. I had a shot at a remanned short block that had a broken bolt in it. All I needed to do was take out and replace the bolt but some joker got it before me by seconds. The cost on the short block was 250.00 because of the broken bolt! lmao! This site links you to all participating junk yards in the country and some in Canada. Gas tanks cannot be shipped if they have ever held a tank of gas so they can only be shipped if they are new. If you have never been to this site you will absolutely love it! I get a ton of parts from this site and love the savings. After all, if I pull a penny out of my pocket... Lincoln squints!

A gas tank can be welded even if it is holding gas and on the car or truck. Although I would never do it myself, an old man welded my tank in his shop with me standing there about 5 feet away around 25 years ago. He explained that it is the gas fumes that explode. He had a hose going from the exhaust into the gas tank with the vehicle running. Exhaust fumes won't explode or burn I guess. Looking back I should have ran the heck out of there but the old man and I are still here to talk about it. Well, I'm still here... not sure about the old poop!

I know a guy that has several out of either an 86 or 87 (maybe both). Anyone know if they'll fit in a 2000?
