FX4 rear axle

Can i put a 2004 FX4 rear end in my 2001 B3000. Will the ABS still work?

Ok, i looked up the the ABS sensor and it is the same, so i guess there shouldnt be that much of a problem.

I installed the axle the other day and it went smoothly, every thing swapped right over. Just need to put a diff speedo gear in.

There is no speedo gear. The speedo gets its signal from the speed sensor (ABS sensor) in the rear diff. Sounds like you have a different ratio now than you had before (being an fx4 8.8 it will be 4.10 gear ratio)

Is your truck a 4x4? Did you change the front gears as well so they would match the rear?

You can have the speedo re calibrated at the dealership to the rear end ratio and tire size you have.

^^My thoughts exactly. There's no speedo gear to change! PCM speedo recal at the dealer or a tuner or a (worthless waste)Superlift calibrator are your speedo fixes. I assume you wern't 4.10 before.

BUT...his '01+, speedometer for the dash is taken from the tail of the transmission. Speed for the ABS is still taken from the tone ring sensor on the diff.

If an '01 still has the VSS in the trans, there is definitley a gear there.

I went from a 3.73 open diff. to a 4.10 LS. i did the math and i need a 20 tooth gear.

But as said above twice, that's not possible on your truck. It's a PCM recalibrate program at the dealer to correct the speeometer.

According to my '01 books, it's OSS in the tailhousing/tailend of the trans and it's the same style sensor as in the rear diff....metal magnet thing with no gear attached. All electronic. PCM takes the signal, sends it to the gauge cluster and displays it. Only way to manipulate it is changing the revolutions per mile on the PCM. To my knowledge: '01 is when they went to the trans, 98-00 is when they took it off the rear diff(no gear to change too), it's the 97 and older where they can change the speed gear. 98+, there's no speed gear to change!

consider this...

Blue Gauges makes a product that can solve your speedo woes fairly easily.
You can recalibrate your speedo at any time. It's useful for future mods such as changing rim and tire size, or swapping in explorer gauges like I did (for the tach).
Plus I think the dealer can only fix your speedo if it's within a certain % of error. This should be able to fix it with any %.

I drove from Jax, Fl to to Tampa, Fl this weekend and i can say there was no difference in gas milage with the steeper gear. My RPM's stayed right at 2,500.

nice. axle swap here I come. hopefully I can just find an axle with the LS already! but if it's a locker... F it. I want the Torsen.
