wheels and lift under $1000 bucks isn't totally bizarre if you go with a body-lift and cheap rims or stay with stock rims and just get the tires.
i had a 2000 ranger xlt and my b-n-law and i put on a 3" body-lift for 33" tires but i also got the bumper lift for both and bought some black spray paint and touched up the frame and painted the hitch because you see everything for sure.
i've heard really bad things over the years about cranking the torsion bars, i don't know that i'd go for that one.
really, a suspension lift is the best way to do it but it can get pricey and would suggest if you do it yourself get a friend to help either with the body-lift or suspension!!!
personally i want to get my fx4 in the sky so bad that i may settle for the body-lift because i honestly don't think they look bad...if you do it right. the worst thing is that you see right through the gap between the bed and the frame. easy solution...rubber or plastic can cover it up just like in front where it keeps the crap off the motor.
good luck brother!!!
