Well this project is going to be starte in the future and wiht the current ecconomic sitiuation probabla even father away now. but any way.

I'm planning on rebuilding an engine from a wrecked 93' cobra, i was wondering if anyone has done this swap. I recent bought another 2wd 92 ranger, i was wondering just how invovled this swap will be or if its will be a lost cause, and also i didnt get the wiring harness wiht the 93 cobra engine, but does have the harness, and a t-5 tranny from a 92 5.0 LX, and i do have a computer from a 93 cobra,

What i need to know is about the wirining harness, and just how hard it will be to fit the 93 CObra EFI 5.0, inot the 92 ranger, also if the stock hood will clear the cobra intake, i hear it wont, and will need a cowl induction hood, or fab up some ind of hood scoop.

I have the hopes to build the truck svt should have, a cobra powered ranger, beter hadleing, brakeing, lowered etc. but that for another thread,. Namely what i have in mind is a mini generation 1 Lightning.

check out the 5.0L swap articles in the Tech library - the GT40 intakes are very similar to the Cobra intake so it should fit under your stock hood. I suggest using the 95-01 5.0L Explorer motor mounts and you may be able to use the oil pan from that series also. The are a few conversion parts suppliers out there for this swap that are referred to in the tech library and other places on this site. As far as your wiring harness, I suggest locating the factory VAcuum and Wiring manuals for the 92LX and the 93 Cobra(I found the ones I needed on eBay)

There were no 95 model year Explorer's with a 5.0. As far as a 93 Cobra 5.0 swap goes, there's nothing different about it that requires anything special in a Ranger swap. The oilpan fits the Ranger, as does the front end accessory drive.

Thanks for the help, i was hopeing i would be able to keep the stock hood., glad to hear i probably can. And i did look at the swap info in the tech library, just wanted tomake sure there was no major differences that i somehow overlooked, in the Cobra 5.0 and the Explorer 5.0. Will keep you all updated on the progress of the project.

Edit: I was told today the the cobra intake is simply a GT-40 intake rebadged, is this true?

The major difference between a 93 Cobra 5.0 and the Explorer motor is the accessory drive.
