Funniest Repair Orders you've seen?

My dad's had a few "stupid calls" as he likes to say. He's a mobile tech who works on utility trucks.

He's gotten emergency calls for disconnecteed wires, things not stowed correctly, and one of his favorites, "my truck in slow!" Translation: "My truck is slower than the other one!!!!!"

With all do respects to those who work in the utility indusry here, linemen can be such whiners! :bawling:

this one is for the more medically inclined on here...

had a doctor in temporary charge of a hospital while the hospital commander was on leave. a few days into his new new position, said "doctor" issued new rules for the hospital. of the many, this one is classic:

"Autopsies are not to be performed on an Outpatient basis."

his wife happened to be chief clinical physician and she went straight to his office and chewed him a new a**hole! we all laughed for days.

:icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

Lets see:
C/S vibration and TPMS light on, swears the tires have never been off for anything, break down the wheel that won't train, find a broken sensor and a tire patch, that happens about once every 3 weeks.

C/S power locks not working. Guy pulled me aside as I was pulling the truck in to let me know that the night before he was putting step bars on and sent a self tapper through the body harness, wired it all back up and the locks wouldn't work. He cooked the security module.

C/S after oil change yesterday *she* (that's a key word in this one) heard a noise from up front, assumed there was no oil in the car and drove to parts store, added two quarts. Didn't bother to check the level before overfilling it so I had to drain 2 quarts out. Manager wouldn't even let me just drain it and charge her for another 5.

C/S rear windows don't work. She had the window lock engaged.

C/S cooled seat doesn't cool enough. Customer weighed 400 lbs. Not an exaggeration, he was built like an average height 300lb guy but he was 6'6".

This was from another guy I know, happened in 85,

1985 5.0 Mustang, 5 speed, convertible.
C/S engine lugs in 5th gear.

He takes the car for a drive, can't find the problem, ships it. They come back two days later, same problem. He has them take him for a ride. Old couple, in their 70s or 80, doing 20 MPH in OD. He asks to drive, to show them the proper shift points, at 25 in 3rd gear the lady is in the back seat, white as a ghost, holding her hat, and screaming at her husband to "make him slow down, he's going too fast!!!"

What else to I have...

C/S the low coolant light came on so they went to Pepboys, bought 2 gal coolant, and added it to the oil (we saved the engine BTW)

C/S OBDII connector cover on his 01 Ranger is missing, thinks you stole it at inspection last week. My 87 is my only vehicle and the ranger never had the cover before 09.

C/S floor mats from 91 E-150 are missing, thinks you stole them. Van didn't have floor mats when it came to me, the last shop it was at had them, guy moved them to keep from getting them dirty, forgot to put them back.

Had a guy come in with two tranny ID numbers asking which one was in his explorer, both were Focus trannies.

C/S vehicle has vibration.
Front tires were chopped worse than the pile of wood chips, bed was loaded with about 500lbs of tools.

Got this all the time on Norfolk/Southern trucks:
C/S rear axle seals leaking.
They continually bought dually trucks and removed the outer wheel.

C/S they but tranny fluid in the brake reservior.

C/S Cruise control light doesn't come on. Car didn't have CC.

And I've only done this for 3 years.

I worked for a Ford dealership as a painter's helper/jr. painter. This guy brings in his forrest green car, forgot make. But anyhow it had bird crap on the deck lid that ate the paint. After cleaning the car, sanding the deck lid, blending and clear coating the rear deck lid the customer said that the paint didnt match. No s&^t, the deck lid has a fresh coat of clear coat, you need to polish the rest of the car. He went to his buddy who was the dealership manager, the manager had us repaint the deck lid 5 more times. After that we had to wet sand, polish and detail the whole car. Well by this time I was furious I had well over 90 hours into painting a deck lid, wet sanding, details and polish. I was let go because I told him I refuse to touch the car anymore. I told him his friend was a freaking idiot and needs to be smacked upside the head.

HOLY CRAP ! And why was I not hired a couple years ago when I applied to work there?

Not sure what their hiring strategy is, but it seems like they don't want their employees to know much.

I heard a manager tell someone on the phone that Prestone flush would unclog a clogged radiator. All about selling products and not really helping the person out, even if it means giving bad advise. Gotta watch them, I've heard some really bad things, like using compression fittings on ABS brake lines.

I had a guy refuse to buy a set of tires because the white wall had a protective (pink) coating. He insisted that he wanted a white wall tire not a pink tire. I couldn't get him to understand that it washes off......

not to get off topic but my lettering had a blue coating on it, i thought it looked pretty cool.

At a shop my dad worked at once, a guy came in complaining of a really loud noise, particularly on acceleration. The cust had actually taken off the muffler because he didnt like the look of it beforehand.:dunno:

some of this stuff really makes me wonder what ever happened to natural selection

my aunt owns a repair shop and i go there a couple times a week to hang out and help some of mechanics there and catch up with my aunt and i was helping one of the guys with a car he needed another set of hands and on the work order that she the customers car wouldnt start somedays and she would pump the gas pedal to get gas into the carb and thought her carb needed to be rebuilt. it was an 2006 kia!! so we went through the entire car trying to find out why the car wouldnt start and well after running OBD code reader on the car it came back and had a code for bad fuel pump and the check engine light was blinking.

Oh jeeze I have a ton of these stories! I'm a senior in high school and take an auto mechanics class. Our shop only charges for parts and not labor so you could only imagine the kinds of cars and the people whose cars we work on.

We get an early 1980's Chevy pickup in with lots of rust and weird stuff in the bed. My buddy pulls it into the garage and puts it on the lift. It had locking lug nuts so we searched around inside the truck for the key. We look behind the seat and we see this brass container with "Jimmy" engraved on the side along with a picture of a dog. Curious, I lifted the container up and took off the lid. It was a bunch of ashes. It "was" his dog. Last time I look in a container in someone's car.

Later that month we get an early 1994 Geo Tracker in the shop. The customer complains that the alternator isn't charging. Walking up to the car, I immediately noticed some weird characteristics of this vehicle. The removeable top was patched with what looked like a leather jacket, the rear plastic window was "stiched" back together after a rip, and the tires were absolutely tiny, almost golf cart size. That was just outside. Here is where the funny part starts. I get inside and look around real quick, seeing a whip, a men's thong, toothpicks everywhere, a mask, rope, cotton balls, you name it, it was in that back seat. I started it up and moved it into the garage and noticed it bouncing very violently up and down. A few of the other kids who are in my auto class thought it would be funny to bounce it as I was pulling it in. I am not kidding you, just by pushing on the bumper a few times, we got the rear tires at least a foot off the ground. It was probably the funniest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. The whole car was just....indescribable. Everything on that car was a joke. While working under the car, I noticed some oil dripping down. I looked up and saw that it was coming from the oil filter. The gasket was hanging down about 2 inches. After I replaced the alternator, the Geo came back with the complaint that it isn't starting. After a quick inspection, we noticed a giant hole in the block with broken pieces inside. No oil maybe? Haha

I've got a ton more...maybe I'll post some other stories later.

Couple more I just remembered:

Guy brings in his 03 sport trac for a "rattling noise under hood. Customer thinks a cover might be loose"

I get in, the noise is definitely NOT a loose engine cover, CE is on, thing can't get out of its own way. I pull the codes, P0301,302,303.
Pull up the power balance, and sure enough, all of bank one is contributing nothing. Run a relative compression, still nothing.
I go tell the guy that he needs $3500 in labor before I can even tell him what parts he needs.

C/S battery light is still on, just replaced battery.

These two were fastlube slips that the customer filled out themselves, happened within two days of each other, different owners:
Fork Explorer and Fork Taurus.

This is as written on the RO:
2003 Focus, Hybrid

C/S washer's don't spray.

Turns out the line was pinched.

Another as written, with punctuation:

Customer states of hard starts. The brake, light stays on, had to jump this morning.

One lady routinely brought in her 2001 toyota camry that she bought used from us complaining that she had to get it jumped because it wouldn't start, and asking for battery and charging system tests. Neither were bad and even after it sat in the lot for 3 days before getting into the shop it still fired right up in less than two seconds.

C/S Windshield wipers don't work when wet.
Sad part was, that was exactly what happened, they worked just fine when dry, the second you got a drop of water on the windshield, they cut out.

i know that from first hand experience , when i worked there they always had this checkout challenge bullshit , sell the most of whatever product they were advertising and you get a cookie or some shit , i think i got fired because 1. I found a job as a mechanic and didnt work but 2 days 2. I knew a hell of alot more about cars than most of the other employees 3. I refused to participate in the checkout challenge bullshit , i am not gonna lie to the custome and tell him that Lucas fuel additive will give his car more power and a lot better mileage

i was one of the best employees they had , all the commercial customers loved me because i not only knew what parts were right and what not , but i made sure that they got all the right parts for the repair they are doing , and if they didnt know how to do it , i could walk them through some repairs step-by-step

but i hated selling parts , i like to do the work , not sell the parts , will post a couple stories in another post /END Rant

Autozone stories from the other side of the counter

Had a guy come in asking for Bosch ( Bow-Shhh ) spark plugs for his 1988 Dodge Astro Van with the 2.5 V6 engine , i about died trying not to laugh

Another guy came in , this one pissed me off , was changing the rear brakes on his PT Cruiser ( i had done these before ) and said he needed the big socket to get the big nut off that holds the rear drum on , no matter how i tried to eplain it to him he would not believe that there are 2 threaded holes in the drum so that you can use bolts to 'push' them off.

there are a few more , just cant remember them all

I had a town car the ticket said "Water leak in trunk Free Willy." The water was about 8"deep.
